The New Indian Express: One little corner of the world that saw particularly heightened activity on Earth Day this year was the Maldive Islands. While the luxury resorts that beckon the high-spending tourist to these atolls of unmatched beauty did their bit, switching off power at fixed hours and offering all-organic meals, professional divers scoured the coral reefs, assessing damage and cleaning up. And nowhere were such gestures and awareness more poignant than in these fragile coral islands, threatened as they are by global warming and rising sea levels. Having spent a blissful few days here some years ago, I thought, what an irreparable loss if they were to be so damaged that travellers of the future might not be able to fall under the spell of the Maldives as I did.
