More than 70,000 lbs of Chiquita bananas believed to set new world record for largest banana display Chiquita Brands, a company known for its fresh and healthy food products, today helped celebrate what is believed to be the world’s largest banana display. More than 70,000 lbs of Chiquita® Bananas from 1,776 boxes and 37 pallets comprised the display at Firelake Discount Foods in Shawnee, Okla. The display eclipses what is believed to be a record set in 2009 of 66,000 lbs of bananas within a single store display. “We were pleased to join with our retail partner Firelake and the Affiliated Foods Company to create this fun and unique event,” said Chris Dugan, vice president of sales for North America at Chiquita. “Not only did consumers in the Shawnee area participate in making history today, but they also got a great deal on premium, fresh Chiquita bananas.” To formally celebrate, Miss Chiquita, the first lady of fruit, was also on hand to commemorate the event and provide fun giveaway items to customers. Customers also received a special deal during the promotion of 5 lbs of Chiquita Bananas for only $1. “Chiquita has been a great partner in creating this event,” said Randy Arceneaux, president and chief executive officer of Affiliated Foods. “It was great to have Miss Chiquita participate in our record setting event today, and I have no doubt that our customers will be enjoying lots of nutritious Chiquita bananas this week.
