Amazon's Kindle Fire puts the heat under Apple and Samsung in the tablet market

By Chris Musson, Amazon are launching a tablet computer aimed at taking on Apple's iPad. The Kindle Fire, which will cost $199 (£128) when it goes on sale in the US on November 15, was unveiled yesterday. It has a seven-inch colour screen and is about half the size of the iPad, which costs from $499 (£399 in the UK). Apple sold 28.7million iPads between April 2010 and June this year, dominating the tablet computer market. But the Kindle Fire is expected to be a worthy rival - not least because online giant Amazon can deliver content such as e-books, films and music. The Fire runs a version of Google's Android software. Its price is lower than expected but it doesn't have a camera or a slot for memory expansion, which are common features on most rival tablets. It isn't known yet when it will go on sale in the UK.Read Full: Amazon's Kindle Fire puts the heat under Apple and Samsung in the tablet market
