Peru: MEM & European Union inaugurate Euro Solar Program

The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM) and the European Union on Friday inaugurated the Euro-Solar Program, through which 130 rural communities have had access to power and were able to connect to satellite internet. The opening will be performed by Energy and Mines Minister, Carlos Herrera Descalzi, and the Head of the European Union Delegation in Peru, Hans Allden. This activity will begin with a satellite conference to allow authorities to connect with Alto Anapati communities from Pangoa-Junín, El Muerto de Olmos - Lambayeque and Toranipata, a floating island from Uros - Puno. For this connection the infrastructure of the Euro-Solar Program will be used, which has managed to provide them with electrical energy and Internet through renewable energy kits that are powered by the sun and wind. In Peru, the implementation of this program is provided by MEM, through the General Directorate of Rural Electricity (DGER), whose work is concentrated in rural areas of the coast, highlands and central jungle. The development of this project required an investment of more than eight million dollars in a joint effort between the mines and energy sectors, education and health, as well as international cooperation, private enterprise and organized civil society. Read Full: Peru: MEM and European Union inaugurate Euro Solar Program
