Philippines: Negros Occidental soon to export organic bananas, pineapples

Negros Occidental will soon be exporting organic bananas and pineapples to Japan. Organic farmer Batchoy Henares of the famous Henares Organic Farm in Barangay Alangilan, Bacolod City, said that a Japanese investor is coming in the city this November to sign an agreement for an export business for organic bananas and pineapples. The Japanese exporter, he said, initially demands them to ship to Japan at least two forty footer container vans of bananas and pineapples per week.“We are confident  that
we can deliver their demands with the ooperation of our local farmers here,” Henares said. He pointed out that Japan’s demand from here would mean a 150-hectare banana and pineapple plantation. During the first planting, he said, it would take about nine months to produce bananas and pineapples that would then have a monthly produce to cope with the demands.
