work. There was no fire alarm either,” Dr Debjyoti Karmakar, president of the AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), said. Even efforts at putting out the fire using a water hose came to naught. Finally, the blaze was extinguished by Fire department personnel. A K Sharma, Chief Fire Officer of Delhi Fire Services, said: “We have just submitted our report to AIIMS, pointing out loopholes in their fire safety measures.” Several fire escapes were blocked due to unauthorised construction work or carelessly discarded furniture. Structural changes have been advised as paths leading to buildings have been found to be too narrow for entry of fire tenders. Fire alarms and sprinklers were found non-functional. The report also recommended immediate upgradation of fire-fighting pumps. Source: Indian Express
