Fresh Plaza: The province has sold nuts valued at almost 10 million Euro. Three years ago India did not buy even a kilo of almonds from Almeria and in 2009 India imported almonds valued just over 70,000 euros. It has become the fourth best nut customer for Almeria. Between January and September, the Indian market purchased almonds valued at just over 400,000 euros, representing 4.1% of the Almerian exports of this product, nearly double the volume of last year, according to the delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Jose Antonio Salinas. However, the best client, of this sector, for companies in Almeria is Germany,
which in the first nine months of the year purchased product worth 5.2 million Euro, 53.6% of the total. Italy is the second destination, with almost 34%, and then France, with 5.3%. More modest shipments have been made to Lebanon, Denmark, Holland and The United Kingdom. In total, until September, almond companies from Almeria exported 2.53 million kilos, representing a 3.6% increase over the same period of 2010. As for the value
of the market, it has exceeded 9.8 million Euro, almost 10% more than last year, according to latest figures from the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade. With this data, nuts are the thirteenth biggest sector that exports in Almería, with 0.7%, the first being fruit and vegetables, with nearly 65%.
