BRIZZLELEO: A BOY aged 16 has died tonight after a cricket ball struck him on the head in a school playground.Police are investigating whether the ball was thrown at Kyle Rees deliberately. He died in hospital with his family at his bedside Kyle had collapsed when he was struck on the temple by the ball thrown by another pupil. He was knocked unsconscious by the horrific blow at the end of the lunch break at Portchester Boys School in Bournemouth, Dorset. Southampton Hospital. Police have launched an investigation into the "unexplained" incident. They cordoned off the playground while they carried out investigations and spoke to witnesses to establish if there are any suspicious circumstances. A spokesman said: "We were called at 7.30pm tonight to an incident that occurred earlier in the day at Portchester School involving a 16-year-old boy who sustained a serious head injury. "Following this incident which is believed to have taken place at 2.10pm, the boy was taken by ambulance to Bournemouth Hospital and transferred to Southampton General Hospital. "A police cordon is in place at the school while officers investigate the circumstances of the incident which we are treating as unexplained."
