Fresh Plaza: Defra(Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), has said that it may not be all bad news for UK commercial fruit production in the event of sustained climate change. There is a possibility that crops that are currently exclusively or almost exclusively imported, could in future be home grown. In addition to this there could be raised yields for some crops currently being grown in the UK as a result of increasedBumper Crop

levels of CO2 and higher temperatures. Defra's report did allow for the fact that the methodology behind the figures used were "crude" and did not, therefore, allow for an accurate appraisal of the situation - the predictions are entirely hypothetical. Quite how the increased agricultural produce will be sustained when large  areas of the UK are under water is anyone's guess. British Isles will be highly susceptible to flooding in the future. The disruption caused by flooding will not be limited to agricultural land of course and there again are wider implications for agricultural industries: “Supply chain disruption, for instance, may result in reduced sales and share prices,” Defra said., Source: www.thegrocer.co.ukSource: Fresh Plaza
