US: Tart cherries provide pain relief

Fresh Plaza: Tart cherries look set to become the latest "Super Food". The cherry industry has just launched the Red Report - a look at over 50 scientific studies relating to the beneficial effects of the fruit.  Tart cherries are packed full of antioxidants for instance. Antioxidants are increasingly popular with consumers, with 9 out of 10 aware of them and 31% attempting to increases their intake of them. One group of antioxidants, anthocyanins, are responsible for giving the tart cherry its red appearance. Research shows that anthocyanins are able to reduce
inflammation, in some cases to a greater extent than conventional pain relief medicines. The potential of this is that cherries could have medicinal properties relevant to the treatment of arthritis, gout, cardiovascular problems and, more typically, muscle stress in active, sporty people. Source: www.marketwatch.comSource: Fresh Plaza
