BusinessDay, By: Thabiso Mochiko, South African version of YouTube launched a year ago with views in SA up 175% in past year, globally three billion videos watched on YouTube every day. GOOGLE’s popular video website YouTube is now available in Afrikaans and isiZulu, the global search engine said yesterday. This means that video content in Afrikaans and Zulu can be made easily available on YouTube. Google could grow its user numbers by localising its service.The announcement comes a year after the South African version of YouTube was launched. Youtube.co.za was the first localised YouTube site in Africa. "The new language versions mean that internet users whose first language is isiZulu or Afrikaans can now fully enjoy what YouTube has to offer," said Luke Mckend, Google SA’s country manager. YouTube gives South Africans the power to "broadcast themselves, with great content in both languages increasingly finding its way on to YouTube", he said.
