Sharifa Ghanem, DUBAI: Kuwait’s Sheikha Sherifa al -assem launched on Sunday a new breast cancer detention center aimed at assisting women in the Gulf country protect themselves from the often fatal disease. The Hayat Early Detection Breast Cancer Center aims at developing Kuwait’s ability to prevent and track patients on breast cancer, Sheikha Sherifa, the wife of Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah, said at the
launch. The opening coincided with the country’s celebrations of Mother’s Day scheduled to take place later this month. The Center, part of the Ruqaya Al-Qatami Charity Foundation and Cancer Patients’ Assistance Fund, opened at Abdullah Yousef Al-Abdulhadi clinic in Yarmouk. The well-equipped center is the first in the Gulf region, the state-run KUNA news agency reported. The opening ceremony was attended by top officials and donors. Sheikha Sherifa expressed joy over the efforts exerted for the benefit of the public, voicing appreciation to Ruqaya Al-Qatami for her support. She said the center “is a work of charity” and called on “all women to benefit from it, and wished for more similar centers in different areas of Kuwait.”
