A mysterious object flying over the coast of California, which was filmed on Monday by CBS reporters, was not a missile but an airplane, according to official Pentagon spokesman Dave Lapan. In the two-minute video, a long smoke trail is clearly visible. It is akin to those left behind when something large, such as a rocket, is gaining altitude. "We have reviewed many sources of information and all things considered, we believe that there is no reason to suppose that it was something other than an airplane" an official has told ITAR-TASS. Previously, the Pentagon said that no launches of U.S. missiles were made on the day in question. The U.S. Army Northern Command, responsible for the defense of the mainland together with the Aerospace Defense Command, also said that no foreign missile launches were recorded.
