At the camp 57 children were from Desire Society Hyderabad and the rest from places across the state. Adventure theme A number of summer camps for children are being organised across the state. Most of them happen to be of the regular type where arts and crafts classes or dancing and singing practice sessions are held. Only a few really provide children some thrilling time. One such a camp is the Adventurous Summer Camp being conducted by Great Hyderabad Adventure Club. The five-day camp which began on May 16 will conclude on May 20, 2912. During the camp days, the children will explore different natural spots such as dams, waterfalls, hills and stay in tents, go on hiking and try to understand wildlife and wild creatures out in the jungles. The camp began with a snake awareness programme conducted by Sunil, a member of Friends of Snakes organisation. Kids were amused to see a variety of snakes and were excited when they could hold them in their hands. Most of the snakes are not poisonous and we should not kill them, said Srikanth Rao a volunteer of the club. The kids were taken on a hiking trip to Keesargutta Hills about 255 km from Hyderabad. In the night, kids learn to pitch tents and take precaution while sleeping in them. After dinner, a film ‘127 Hours’ was shown through a laptop. On the second day kids were taken for sightseeing to Nagarjunsagar Dam and waterfalls at Ethipotala. Kids were taught to cook in the open. A bonfire was held and later the film ‘Extra Terrestrial’ was screened, said Kiran K, the organiser of the camp. The camp will also have sessions for bouldering and trekking. Kids will be taken to a place known as ‘Mysterious Island’. Around 40 kids are participating in the camp. The participants are divided in eight groups and each one of them is assigned a group leader. Two volunteers from the club will act as guides for each group, said Kiran. Source: The Hans India, Image: https://www.flickr.com
