Casting a spell of Blakc magic

Being in a rock band isn’t just about touring, writing songs, and making records. It is also about taking a wonderful smile onto the stage and making people feel good about themselves. This is the giveaway with which Blakc cast its spell on fans in the city. It is hard to limit Blakc to any one genre, as by design they are a bit of everything -- the jacks of all genres. They are masters of music and the country can be proud about them. Blakc has made its way to the city through an exciting journey -- a journey with hurdles, but nevertheless one that stands out. It wears the hat of being one of the best bands to come out of India for years. The band launched its sophomore album ‘Mothered Land’ at Hard Rock CafĂ© on Thursday, when everyone from the audience shouted WOOOW!, a reaction the band was anticipating from the city, leaving everybody at the venue delighted -- the audience, staff at HRC and the band included. The ambience laid out in sheer excitement and enthusiasm is something one will not find every day. The band played for almost an hour and rocked the floor with music enthusiasts head banging. It can be appreciably classed as one of the best performances in the city in quite some time. With their next stop at Bengaluru, the band interacted with Hyderabad Hans, sharing their love for the city and insights into their evolution Why is the name of the band so unusual, its Blakc and not Black? Well, that is a very funny story. As we started off in 2006, the name of the band was Black and gradually the band caught attention. But then little by little we saw a trend of online media complimenting the growth of the band. So while we started our website and named it Black, what we could ourselves find was funny. We type ‘Black band’ on Google and what we found were pictures of a black rubber band, and also at that time of launching our website named Black, links to porn sites were available on Google. And we were in a mess, we did not want to change the name of the band as it was becoming popular, so once at our jam room our drummer joked “Dude! We must have shifted the C of Black before K, at least then we could have come up with our own website,” and all the others were amazed and laughed and said “Well! That is not a bad idea.” And, so we end up being Blakc and not Black. What genres of music do you play? Consuming us within one genre is a bit hard, even for us. We don’t growl. We don’t shout. We play our music real loud. We have our own compositions which we as a band brainstorm. Still, going by the type of genres we play, you can club us to progressive rock, hard rock, pop, etc and etc. How has been your journey yet with the success of your last album and performances? Our last album ‘Choking on a dream’ was quite more than successful. We sold around 1000 copies we made and had to arrange for more. The response was massive, and that is also one reason why we have performed more than 130 gigs around the country. How has been the response in Hyderabad to the launch of your second album? We visited Hyderabad once, but that was for a closed event. This is the first time that we will be performing at Hyderabad. It has been a dream to stage at such a fabulous place with amazing people, and great lovers of the music. The response was fun and amazing at the city of pearls and biryani, though we are not much popular in Hyderabad as such. Still, the turnout has been impressive. Source: The Hans India:: ***
