Giant dark matter bridge in space

By Boris Pavlishev, Scientists started talking about dark matter over a decade ago when their attention was drawn to the revolution of galaxies. As stars distance themselves from the centre of galaxies, their speed does not reduce as in planets of the Solar System. This can be explained only by the presence of invisible masses which are distributed throughout the plane of the galaxy, says astrophysicist at the Sternberg Astronomical Institute of Moscow State University, Vladimir Surdin.“Besides ordinary matter there is something that possesses gravitation. We can feel it by its attraction of stars and planets but we can’t see it. This is the reason why we call it the dark matter, which does not emit light or show off in any other way except in gravitational pull. The amount of dark matter in the Universe is much more than ordinary matter. In the early stage of the evolution of the Universe, it created its structure, and later, ordinary stars and galaxies were threaded on it like beads. We felt the presence of dark matter in clusters of galaxies. But until now, we could not prove that it penetrates throughout the Universe,” Vladimir Surdin said.
