Now it has been clear that UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee will be India's 13th president. The former finance minister and number 2 in the UPA government is going to be the first person of the country as he has achieved the magic number to be elected as the president of India. He has comfortably crossed the halfway mark with 558,000 votes to secure his journey to Rashtrapati Bhavan. NDA candidate and his rival in presidential poll former Lok Sabha speaker P.A.Sangama was way behind with only 239.966 votes as counting continue. Pravin H. Parikh, the polling agent of Pranab Mukherjee, he has crossed the halfway mark and now he is the president of India. According to sources, the counting of votes from rest 15 of states are still due and now it has of no more importance as Pranab has crossed the half way and achieved the magic number. Mukherjee got total 527 votes out of total 748 MPs voted whereas Sangama got 206. It is noted that 15 votes were remained invalid including SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. Now the way to Raisina Hills for the most experienced 76 years Pranab Mukherjee is clear. He was widely considered the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's most trusted and able strategists. His candidature was backed not only by the coalition of ruling UPA but also the JD (U) and Shiv Sena, the main components of NDA, which had backed P.A.Sangama, supported him.
