Fresh Plaza: Indian kinnow growers are looking at diversification into new varieties of the fruit, to cope with the low prices caused by over production. In particular varieties which would be suitable for the export market are sought. One new variety that might hold the key is Daisy Tangerine. This variety, which originates in California, is reported to be far sweeter than the usual kinnow and, perhaps most importantly, contains fewer seeds. The Punjab Agricultural University is still conducting research into the viability of Daisy Tangerine, but farmers are keen to get started with it.
