By Jessica Jordan, Congressional leaders are asking for funding to improve seaports along the east coast to make them accessible to larger ships. The move comes in light of improvements to the Panama Canal that has said to be completed in the year 2014, which will allow ships twice as big to reach the east coast. In theory this could reroute vessels that could stop on the west coast and send goods across the country. Lawmakers say the Canal expansion will enhance international trade.
