Japan`s ruling party secures strong win after Abe assassination

Japan's ruling party and partners won enough votes to form a supermajority in an upper house election held just days after the assassination of former prime minister Shinzo Abe, local media said Monday.

The ex-premier's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its coalition partner Komeito strengthened their hold by winning more than 75 of the 125 upper house seats up for grabs, according to national news outlets.

The parties are part of what is now a two-thirds supermajority willing to amend the country's pacifist constitution, thereby strengthening its military role on the global stage — a longtime Abe goal.

Even before the former prime minister's murder, the LDP and Komeito were expected to cement their majority, though the final number of seats will be scrutinized for signs of whether the attack bolstered support for them.

"I think it is significant we were able to complete the elections," Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told NHK, adding he wants to tackle the pandemic, Ukraine-related issues and inflation.

Kishida had insisted the election proceed despite the assassination, saying "we must never allow violence to suppress speech."

Conceding defeat, Kenta Izumi, leader of the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party, which was projected to have lost several seats, said it was clear "voters did not want to switch from the LDP and entrust us with running the government," according to Kyodo News.

Despite the murder, turnout for the election remained low at only 52 percent, national outlets reported.

Abe was gunned down at close range on Friday in the western region of Nara, and died of blood loss at a local hospital. His body was brought to his family home in Tokyo on Saturday.

The assassination rattled the nation and sent shockwaves around the world, prompting an outpouring of sympathy even from nations with which the hawkish Abe had sometimes difficult relations, such as China and South Korea.

The man accused of his murder, 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami, is in custody and has told investigators he targeted Abe because he believed the politician was linked to an unnamed organisation.

Local media have described the organisation as religious and said Yamagami's family had suffered financial trouble as a result of his mother's donations to the group.

He also reportedly visited the western region of Okayama on Thursday with the intent of killing Abe at a different event, but backed out because participants had to submit their names and addresses.

Additionally, Yamagami admitted to police to test-firing guns at a facility connected to the religious group beforehand, according to media.

No bigger regret

With little violent crime and tough gun laws, security at Japanese campaign events can be relaxed, though in the wake of Abe's murder, measures were beefed up for Kishida's remaining appearances.

Security at polling stations on Sunday remained normal, however, with 79-year-old Takao Sueki saying he was voting with an eye on international instability, including Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"Watching the world now, I think every day about how Japan will manage with the situation," he told AFP.

"This is a democratic country and I despise the use of violence to eliminate someone," he added when asked about Abe's murder.

"I strongly believe that if people have disagreements, they should dispute them with dialogue."

Police have promised a "thorough investigation" into what the head of the Nara regional police called "problems with guarding and safety measures" for Abe.

"In all the years since I became a police officer in 1995... there is no greater remorse, no bigger regret than this," chief Tomoaki Onizuka tearfully told reporters on Saturday evening.

Wake, funeral planned

Abe's office told AFP that a wake would be held on Monday night, with a funeral for family and close friends only on Tuesday. Local media said both were expected to be held at Tokyo's Zojoji Temple.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was in Asia for meetings, arrived in Tokyo on Monday to see Kishida and offer condolences in person.

Abe was the scion of a political family and became the country's youngest post-war prime minister when he took power for the first time in 2006, aged 52.

His hawkish, nationalist views were divisive, particularly his desire to reform Japan's pacifist constitution to recognise the country's military, and he weathered a series of scandals, including allegations of cronyism.

But he was lauded by others for his economic strategy, dubbed "Abenomics," and his efforts to put Japan firmly on the world stage, including by cultivating close ties with Biden's predecessor Donald Trump.

Kishida, 64, was once described as among Abe's favoured successors, and holds a solid majority in parliament with Komeito.

But he faces significant policy headwinds, including rising prices and energy shortages, particularly after an early summer heatwave that led to a power crunch.Kishida is expected to reshuffle his cabinet in the coming months. Source: https://www.daily-bangladesh.com

Nepalese presenter sets world record for hosting longest-ever talk show

A Nepali television presenter has set a world record by hosting the longest-ever talk show. Rabi Lamichhane, who lives in the United States, stayed on air for more than 62 hours. He interviewed politicians, journalists and celebrities on the theme 'Buddha was born in Nepal', and took phone calls from viewers. According to the BBC, Lamichhane said he had arranged the record attempt to help promote Nepal globally. Guinness World Record rules allowed him five minutes break every hour during the broadcast. He ate on air, and even began growing a beard over the two-and-a-half-day programme. Formerly a radio and television journalist in Nepal, Lamichhane currently lives in Baltimore in the United States, where he is the manager of a branch of the sandwich shop Subway. The previous record was set by two Ukrainian presenters who stayed on air for 52 hours in 2011. (ANI). Source: News Track India

Chinese couples seek surrogacy in US

BioEdge, By Jared Yee: While Americans have long gone to China to adopt children, Chinese couples are now travelling to US surrogacy clinics because it is illegal in their home country. China’s growing affluence has also made it easier for Chinese couples to relocate for surrogacy services. California is a popular destination, due to its high Chinese population and its courts’ liberal attitude to surrogacy. Jerry Zhu and Grace Sun, from Beijing, have now saved US$60,000 toward the $100,000 they predict the surrogacy birth will cost. They want to go to Los Angeles later this year for the procedure. “It's going to be expensive,” said Zhu, a furniture factory manager. “But if we have a child it will complete the family. We are hoping for a son.” Zhu and Sun, like most couples, hope for gestational surrogacy, a procedure where an embryo – produced with the woman’s egg and the man’s sperm – is implanted into the surrogate mother who will bear the child. According to clinic directors, gestational surrogacy costs between $80,000 and $120,000, with higher costs if complications occur or repeated implants are needed. The price then leaps about $30,000 if the prospective mother’s eggs are not viable. In these cases, clinics usually procure eggs from donor clinics. A Caucasian woman can usually get $5,000 to $8,000 for 10 to 14 eggs, according to Dr Jeffrey Steinberg of the Fertility Institutes in Encino. An ethnic Chinese woman – whose eggs are more attractive to Chinese couples for cultural reasons – can be paid up to $15,000 and higher for her eggs, Steinberg says. Source: BioEdge

IndyCar star Pippa excited about i1 Super Series

By C. Santhosh KumarDC:  Pippa Mann relishes fighting against the odds. When she was 17, the British girl had to leave school and work as a waitress in a pizza restaurant to fuel her racing dreams. As not many people encouraged a girl in a racing overall, Pippa was then forced to cross the Atlantic before making history on American soil — the first British girl to line-up at the prestigious Indy 500. Now at 28 as an established contender in famous IndyCar series, Pippa has a battle in hand. She’s onthe fast-track to  recovery after her pinkie and ring finger on right hand were badly burnt and required five hours of surgery after a horrifying multiple-car pileup that killed Dan Wheldon in the Indy finale last year at Las Vegas. Pippa, who is one of the biggest stars to be featured in the inaugural season of the i1 Super Series organised by Machdar Motorsports, says the Indian league will be good preparation ahead of her new IndyCar season. “Having sustained an injury, getting back in the car (Radical SR3 at i1) before I am back in an IndyCar allows to rehab my hand on the job, while getting to a drive a different style of car and visiting a few new countries will add to the challenge,” she added. According to Pippa, America is a paradise for women racers. “Europe is still a lot more prejudice towards us. I don’t want to be on track because I'm a novelty; I am here because I am as skilled as anyone else. If I can turn up and do every aspect of my job as well as the guy next to me, I have to treated on a par with him. That’s something I love about the US. The fact that women shouldn’t be in F1 seems to be much more ingrained into people in Europe than it is in the US,” Pippa said. Source: The Asian Age

CCEA clears disinvestment in 4 PSUs

CCEA
Giving a push to its ambitious disinvestment programme, the government today decided to sell its stake in four PSUs -- Hindustan Copper, Oil India, MMTC and Nalco -- which may fetch around Rs 15,000 crore. The government, however, did not take any decision with regard to stake sale in Neyveli Lignite and initial public offering (IPO) of RITES LTD, which were also on the agenda of the meeting of Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA). The government has approved the proposal to sell 10 per cent stake in Oil India Ltd and another 9.59 per cent disinvestment in Hindustan Copper Ltd (HCL), an official statement said. Further, the CCEA also cleared the proposal of 12.15 per cent stake sale of Nalco and 9.33 per cent in MMTC through Offer for Sale (OFS) route. The government currently holds 78.43 per cent stake in Oil India. "After this disinvestment, the government's shareholding in the company would come down to 68.43 per cent," the statement added. The paid-up capital of the company as on March 2012 stood at Rs 601 crore. Further, post disinvestment government stake in HCL would come down to 90 per cent, from 99.59 per cent at present. The company's paid up capital stands at Rs 463 crore. As far as the stake sale in NALCO is concerned, it would bring down the government equity in the company to 75 per cent, from 87.15 per cent at present. The equity capital of the company stands at Rs 1,289 crore. As regards commodity trading firm MMTC, the stake sale would bring down government shareholding to 90 per cent, from 99.33 per cent. It's paid up capital stands at Rs 100 crore. However, the 5 per cent stake sale of Neyveli Lignite and another 10 per cent IPO of RITES was not taken up by the CCEA. In today's trade, shares of MMTC were down by 0.17 per cent at Rs 777.90, NALCO was up by 1.50 per cent at Rs 54.10. Oil India shares were up 0.94 per cent at Rs 486.35 and HCL closed at Rs 269.35, up 0.62 per cent on the BSE. Finance Minister P Chidambaram had last month asked officials to expedite the process of disinvestment so that state-owned companies could hit stock markets in time and help the government achieve the target of Rs 30,000 crore in the current fiscal. Although five months have passed in the current fiscal, the government so far has not been able to come out with a public issue. Raising adequate funds from disinvestment was necessary to keep in check the fiscal deficit which is facing pressure due to rising food, fuel and fertiliser subsidy bills. The government earlier deferred the initial public offer (IPO) of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) due to weak stock market conditions. The Rs 2,500-crore RINL issue was originally proposed to hit the markets in July. Due to uncertain market conditions, the government in the last fiscal could raise only Rs 14,000 crore from disinvestment against the target of Rs 40,000 crore. Stocks More on Hindustan Copper, Company INFO More on National Aluminium, India eyes $2.6 bln from stake sales in 4 state firms (Reuters) India's cabinet approved stake sales in four state companies on Friday, restarting a stalled divestment programme as part of a broader push to revive a reform agenda aimed at kick-starting economic growth and shoring up public finances. The cabinet approved the sale of 9.5 percent in Hindustan Copper Ltd, 12.15 percent in National Aluminium Co Ltd , 9.33 percent in trading firm MMTC Ltd and 10 percent in explorer Oil India Ltd, minister of trade and industry Anand Sharma told reporters. At current market prices, the stake sales would raise about $2.6 billion for the government. New Delhi aims to raise 300 billion rupees ($5.5 billion) through share sales in state-run companies in the current fiscal year that ends next March, but has thus far drawn a blank as weak market conditions have deterred public issues or auctions. The government has already approved a share sale in Steel Authority of India Ltd and an initial public offering in steelmaker Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd, which together were expected to fetch close to $1 billion, but the offers have not yet materialised. Market sentiment has picked up over the past couple of months, however. India's benchmark share index has rallied more than 19 percent so far in 2012, compared with a 12.6 percent gain in the MSCI Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan., with most of the gains since June. We are seeing a pronounced rally and this is quite nicely programmed, said Saurabh Mukherjea, head of equities at Ambit Capital. My sense is we would see the divestments go through, but they should hope to get through as much as they can between now and Christmas. Indian companies raised $7.1 billion from share offerings in the first half of this year, down 4 percent from the same period in 2011, according to Thomson Reuters data. Philippine Shark Fishing Ban: senator pushing legislation to protect all sharks and rays

RTSea: Philippine Senator Loren Legarda is receiving considerable coverage in local news outlets for her proposal to put forth legislation that would ban the catching of all sharks and rays in Philippine waters. Her proposal goes beyond the type of shark fin ban that has been initiated elsewhere, such as in several U.S. west coast states and Hawaii. Legarda seeks "to declare as unlawful the wounding or killing of sharks and rays, unless there is threat to human life or safety. The shark’s fin soup and the selling of shark’s fin will likewise be prohibited to eliminate the demand that results in the massive killing of sharks." This proposal, Senate Bill 2616, was actually first proposed over a year ago, in November, 2010, and mirrors similar legislation that was proposed in July, 2010 by Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which has been languishing in committee since then. The senator cites several arguments for pushing for this legislation, “Sharks, as predators of the sea, play a vital role in regulating the ecological balance, particularly the health of important commercial fish species, population balance, and protection of coral reefs. Being a country with about two-thirds of the known marine species of the Pacific living in its coastal waters, the Philippines plays a crucial role in protecting marine species.” Being that Senate Bill 2616 has been on out on the floor for some time, I find
this sudden attention to be of interest. This morning, I counted five different Philippine news outlets picking up the story and, as much of what I read was verbatim from one source to the next, it was clear that a press release had been circulated. News reports claim that the senator's renewed drive was a result of recent local reports of shark finning operations taking place, and there's no reason to doubt that. “Clearly, the absence of the law forbidding the catching of sharks, gives people the courage to continue the practice, which could eventually lead to the extinction of shark species in the country, especially [sic] that they reproduce slowly,”said Legarda in a statement on Sunday. However, the release of Legarda's statement could also be propitious as a response to recent statements made by a panel of experts at a forum held in Singapore and sponsored by the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies. Expressing their controversial views were Dr. Giam Choo Hoo, a member of the United Nations Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES), Prof. Steve Oakley of Shark Savers Malaysia and Hank Jenkins, president of Species Management Specialists. The three put forward the position that prohibiting the trade in shark fins will not dramatically reduce the number of sharks killed worldwide. They noted that many countries such as Germany, France, Australia and Iceland have long killed sharks for their meat. “Even if shark’s fin were banned, these countries would continue to catch sharks for the meat,”said Oakley. Giam used statistics from the UN Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) to say that 70 percent of all sharks caught are done by local fishermen in developing countries who consume the entire shark, not just selling the fins. And Jenkins was critical of the statistics that are often used regarding the number of sharks caught worldwide. He questioned the accuracy of 73 million caught each year, saying that it was a manipulation of data originally research by marine scientist Shelley Clarke who put the number at 38 million in 2000 with a wide variance of 26 million to 73 million. While the idea that shark finning is not the sole issue threatening sharks (albeit the most distasteful) or that catch numbers can be widely inaccurate and prone to manipulation are actually valid points of discussion and consideration, the manner in which they were presented in Singapore has raised the dander of many shark advocates (read here, here, here) and pro-shark organizations. The panel's most inflammatory statement was probably made when, as reported in The Jukarta Post, they insisted, "there is no evidence that live finning - cutting sharks’ fins off before throwing the sharks back into the sea - is a prevalent practice. 'Although practiced by some fishermen, it is illegal, relatively infrequent and condemned by the industry,' said Jenkins. Read Full: Philippine Shark Fishing Ban: senator pushing legislation to protect all sharks and rays

World University Rankings: US, UK top

London: US and British universities continue to dominate in academic excellence but Asia is catching up fast, said an influential education rankings report. The California Institute of Technology kept its top spot in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2012-2013, which also saw the University of Oxford rising two positions -- ahead of Harvard -- to jointly share second place with Stanford University. The United States retained the overall number one spot with 76 of its universities securing a place in the top 200 institutions, followed by Britain. The University of Cambridge slipped one place to seventh while the Imperial College London held on to the eight spot. France has seven institutions in the top 200 compared to five last year. A closer analysis of the rankings, however, showed many US and British institutions losing ground in contrast to Asia. Universities in China, Singapore, Taiwan and especially South Korea witnessed a surge in performance in what was described as evidence of a power shift from the West to the East. Dirk Van Damme, head of the Innovation and Measuring Progress Division at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), said: "Academic excellence is gradually shifting away from the 20th-century centres. The US and the UK still dominate the absolute summit, but they face a severe loss of total position in the top 200 list." The ranking system warned of Britain slipping into global mediocrity within a generation due to funding cuts, higher tuition fees and rising global competition. "Outside the golden triangle of London, Oxford and Cambridge, England's world-class universities face a collapse into global mediocrity," Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education rankings, said. "Huge investment in top research universities across Asia is starting to pay off. And while the sun rises in the East, England faces a perfect storm," he added. The Times used 13 performance indicators to evaluate more than 700 universities including on research, teaching, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Source: Financial Express

World's shortest woman from India sets another record

GuinnessThe world's smallest woman from India, 18-year-old Jyoti Amge set another world record when she met the world's shortest man Chandra Dangi from Nepal to pose for the 2013 edition of Guinness Book of Records in Italy. The meeting of the two set another record as this was the first time the world's smallest man and woman have met in recorded history, the Daily Mail reported. There might be a huge generation gap between 72-year-old Chandra and Jyoti but they were joking and laughing as they posed for photos with the new book, both dressed in traditional outfits from their native countries, earlier this year. Pictures of the union will be featured in the soon-to-be-released 'Guinness World Records 2013' book. Jyoti from Nagpur in India officially became the world's smallest woman on her 18th birthday last December and Dangi's confirmation came in February this year after measuring by Guinness officials. Jyoti has a form of dwarfism called Achondroplasia which means she will stay 24.7 inches for the rest of her life. She is set to visit the UK in September to help launch the new book. "Since being recognised by Guinness World Records I have been able to visit lots of different countries. I love travelling. I have visited Japan and parts of Europe and now I can't wait to visit the UK," she was quoted as saying by the paper. Dangi hails from a small village called Rhimkola, some 400 kilometres west of Kathmandu. "I'm very happy that my name will be written in a book. It's a big thing for my family, my village and my country," Dangi said. At 21.5 inches Dangi is also the shortest man in history, breaking the previous record of India's Gul Mohammed (1957-97) who was 22.5 inches tall. Source: Indian Express

Malaysia pushing for tourism through local art

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia tourism ministry believes that by promoting the country’s art and culture it can increase tourism to the country. Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen said on Thursday that the ministry will push the promotion of art and Malaysian culture to foreign audiences to boost knowledge of what a tourist can experience in the country. She said it would be in addition to the promotion of the country’s natural wonders, its beaches and resorts. She was quoted as saying that efforts “would be made to highlight Malaysia as a lifestyle destination, including through the promotion of art, as this Southeast Asian nation was not only about fabulous beaches, food or nature.” She added that tourists had come to buy Malaysian art, “thanks to promotional activities in places like Bali, Singapore and London.” Speaking at the soft launch of an art exhibition at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) on Thursday, Ng said that “art festivals organized in Malaysia had also contributed in attracting more visitors to the country. “And according to the National Art Gallery, the number of local visitors is increasing following a move to promote local artists through various exhibitions,” she said. The minister argued that art would also help generate an increase in income for the country. On the art galleries set up at the Tourism Ministry in Putrajaya and the Malaysia Tourism Centre in Jalan Ampang here, she said they served as a platform for local artists to display their work, Bernama news agency reported. BM Source: Bikya Masr, ***

India has recorded 48 tiger deaths since January, nearly as many as during all of last year, in a setback to its efforts to save the endangered animal, an official says. "The largest numbers have been killed in the Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand state and in the Tadoba tiger reserve in Maharashtra," said SP Yadav, deputy inspector general of the National Tiger Conservation Authority. Yadav said it was not clear how many of these tigers were killed by poachers but it could be more than 50 per cent. The rising demand in tiger parts in China and Southeast Asia has led to a rise in poaching in India's tiger reserves, Yadav said. Conflict with villagers who live in the vicinity of the reserves also leads to the killing of tigers. Source: The Coming CrisisSource: https://www.flickr.com/

Oz girl training to become first white geisha

Indian Express, Agencies : London, An Australian girl is  the  first  Westerner
Geishain the 400-year-history of Japanese culture to be accepted as a fully-fledged geisha. Fiona Graham entered the unusual line of work after discovering the world of beautifully made-up traditional tea servers through academic studies.Working in the documentary film gave her the opportunity to delve further into the largely hidden world - as immortalised in ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’.She maintains that, as a Caucasian, she had to work harder to be accepted into Geisha

the notoriously tight geisha world. “Being white is absolutely no advantage whatsoever in the geisha community,” the Daily mail quoted her as telling BBC. “Customers looking for geisha are not looking to find white geisha. So I had a very much more difficult time than the average geisha,” she said. In 2007, on her debut, she was given her geisha name Sayuki, which means “transparent happiness”. Graham lives in Asakusa, Tokyo’s oldest geisha district and won’t reveal her age because geisha’s hierarchy comes from their position in the household not when they were born. Far from being mute female decoration, as is often depicted in Western television and books, geisha always have been strong, independent businesswomen. So it’s no surprise that Graham has now turned her love of geisha into a venture with the Japanese tourist board. The first westerner to attempt to enter the hallowed, hugely closeted world of traditional Japanese female entertainers was Liza Dalby, an American scholar in the Seventies, but she never completed her training. India, SKorea to expand political, security and trade ties

India  and  South  Korea  on  Sunday  decided  to expand their political and security cooperation besides upgrading the already booming business ties to achieve an ambitious trade target of USD 40 billion by 2015. During his talks with President Lee Myung-bak, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh noted that bilateral trade had risen by 65 per cent over the past two years since the two countries implemented the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. "We have therefore set a new target of USD 40 billion by 2015. We also agreed to accelerate work in progress to upgrade the Agreement and make it more ambitious," Singh told reporters after wide-ranging talks with Lee. Since the implementation of CEPA from January 1, 2010, bilateral trade had crossed USD 20 billion mark in 2011. Today's announcement enhances the trade target set by the leaders to USD 40 billion by 2015 as against USD 30 billion by 2015 as decided earlier. Responding to Lee's call, Singh agreed to expand the political and security cooperation between the two countries. "With this objective in mind, I informed President Lee of India's decision to position a Defence Attache at our Embassy here in Seoul before the end of the year," he said. "India has also offered to launch Korean satellites on Indian space launch vehicles," Singh said. Singh and Lee also agreed to enhance cooperation and coordination on regional issues, including in the East Asia Summit process. Singh arrived here on Saturday for a four-day visit to attend a Nuclear Security Summit here. The two-day summit begins on Monday when world leaders will meet at over dinner. The Prime Minister also invited Korean businessmen to invest in India in a big way and underlined that India was making a huge effort to upgrade its physical infrastructure. "We want the Korean companies to help us realise this objective and benefit from the opportunities provided by this," Singh said. India and Korea also signed an agreement on simplifying visa procedures. This agreement will make travelling easier for business persons, the Prime Minister said. Noting that companies such as LG, Hyundai and Samsung were already household names in India, Singh said he would like to see small and medium sized Korean companies also making India a base for their manufacturing. Singh and Lee also discussed ways and means to enhance cooperation between our scientists and technicians, including how to operationalise a joint Science and Technology Fund of USD 10 million. Singh also updated his host of the development in the re-establishment of the Nalanda University and that he looked forward to Korean participation in the project. Next year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and the Republic of Korea and the two countries also agreed to celebrate the occasion in a befitting manner. White men ‘more attracted to women with Asian faces'

White men
Indian Express, Agencies : London,, White men prefer the facial features of Asian women while white women go for the faces of black men, scientists have discovered. During the study, the researchers found that white people tend to choose other races when asked to rate which faces they find most attractive. Men and women aged between 18 and 30 were shown 600 faces of the opposite sex and asked to grade them for attractiveness. The women tended to go for black male faces, followed by white and then Asian. Men black men white women

plumped for Asian women, followed by white, then black. The Department of Psychology at Cardiff University, which carried out the study, said that the results of their research are reflected in society. Government figures show around one-and-a-half times more black men marrying white women than the other way around in the UK. More white men have also been found to marry East Asian women - compared to Asian men marrying white women. “It will come as no surprise to many that facial attractiveness makes upinterracial

part of the decision of who we marry,” the Daily Mail quoted Michael Lewis, the study leader as saying. “And it’s no coincidence that groups perceived as more attractive - black males and Asian females - feature more often in mixed-race marriages. “In the past more measurable features such as wealth, status and fertility have been considered more important in how we choose out partners. Our study matches the same patterns observed in the Government''s data on marriage,” he added. Source: Indian Express
