Bhaag Farhan Bhaag! Way to go

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag photo: Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013) MV5BMTY1Nzg4MjcwN15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwOTc1NTk1OQ_V1__zps045d5525.jpg
Its raining good films this year and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag looks the best so far. Rare piece of work, that's hard to come by every now and then in Bollywood. Brilliantly enacted, visually splendid and a wholesome entertainer. Be it the sepia-tainted flashbacks or the racing close-ups or the
scenes in Leh, its all breath-takingly shot. I didn't mind the three-hour duration. I savored every bit of it. The film had me hooked from the opening shot. It made me laugh, it made me cry. (Except the flashbacks, people in the theater whistled and clapped for almost every scene. The climax, ofcourse, evoked the loudest cheers. Who stays unruffled by the frenzy of an India-Pakistan face off, anyway?) Performance-wise, I did not once see Farhan Akhtar in Milkha. From his looks to the role he was essaying, Farhan was completely the character. Tough call, if I have to pick between Farhan, the director or Farhan, the actor. He killed it. In fact, because of his performance, BMB will be counted with films like Dil Chahta Hai (his directorial debut). I'll be disappointed if Farhan does not win an award this year. He'll have earned it, if he does win. Divya Dutta, playing Farhan's sister, woos you with her acting skills. I couldn't stop drooling over her every time she was on screen. Prakash Raj and Pawan Malhotra are their usual
brilliant selves. Rakesh Omprakash Mehra smartly used Sonam ;-) Very sparingly. With minimum dialogues. Acting is so not her department. But, whatever little, he's cute. BMB was one of my most awaited films of the year. And it was so worth the wait! A memorable sfilm, that will stay with me for a long, long time! Those of you, who have seen it, I'm waiting to hear from you
in the comments below. Those who haven't, book your tickets now! :) Source: eat pray love MoviesImage: photobucket.com

'Journey to the West' smashes box office records

Stephen Chow's fantasy comedy "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons" is poised to become the highest grossing domestic film in China. It has earned 1 billion yuan (159 million U.S. dollars) in just half a month, becoming one of only two domestic films to generate more than 1 billion yuan in box office revenues on the mainland, China Film News said Monday. It took 20 days for "Lost in Thailand," the current box office record holder, to bring in the same amount of money. "Lost," a low-budget comedy, has earned gross revenues of more than 1.2 billion yuan since it debuted last December. But many believe the film's record will soon be usurped by "Journey to the West," as the latter will stay on Chinese theaters' "hit films" list for at least another 15 days. Following the popularity of Chow's 1994 two-part film series "A Chinese Odyssey," the film is a retelling of the classic Chinese tale "Journey to the West." "Journey to the West" debuted on Feb. 10 and took in 80 million yuan on its first day, the biggest opening ever for a domestic film, according to figures from the film's producer, the Huayi Bros. Media Group. It also reset the mainland's single-day box office record after taking in revenues of 122 million yuan on Valentine's Day. The previous single-day record was 112 million yuan earned by "Transformers III: Dark of the Moon" in 2011. China is the world's second-largest film market. Its 2012 box office sales hit 17.07 billion yuan, surging 30.18 percent year on year. Source: China.org.cn

English Vinglish' photo: English Vinglish EV_zps038ff674.png Bollywood actress Sridevi's comeback film "English Vinglish", which released last week, is silently spreading a message among its viewers worldwide - respect women. The 49-year-old plays the character of a middle class housewife Shashi who is often ridiculed and humiliated by her teenage daughter and husband because of her poor English. Sridevi said she is getting positive feedback from her viewers who have liked the film's message of supporting and respecting women who silently dedicate their lives to the welfare of their family. "A man, someone's husband, came up to me and said after watching the movie he had felt bad that his harsh remarks may have hurt his wife many times. "A young girl had said she went back home after watching the movie and hugged her mother and said 'I love you'. These were the reactions, emotions of some viewers. The movie is not just about a person learning English language, it is about human feelings, it is a universal subject," Sridevi said. during promoting her film here. The actress, who has ruled the Hindi film industry in the late '80s and nineties, is all praises for first time director Gauri Shinde, wife of director R Balki. "Gauri is a great director, and it is a first time for me to work with a woman director. I just grabbed the script when I heard it. "I fell for the character of Shashi Godbole. Shashi embodied simplicity and sensitivity. She is a very relatable character because I am a mother and a woman. But my children and husband respect and pamper me," she said. Looking chic in black tight fitted trousers, shirt and an ankle length open robe in black and gold, she credited her husband Boney Kapoor and children as the secret behind her youthful looks. "My husband and children keep me in shape, no pain no gain," she added. Sridevi, who has returned to the silver screen after a gap of fifteen years with this film, said she will also make her daughters watch it. "This is a movie I can show proudly to my kids and grandchildren, this is also one of my best," she addded.Source: Screenindia, Image: photobucket.com

'Avengers' to top US$1 billion worldwide

China: After posting the highest domestic box office debut in history last weekend, "Avengers" set another record by easily topping the $75.6 million "Avatar" pulled in during its second weekend in 2009, making "Avengers" the first movie to exceed $100 million in its second weekend. "Avengers" has now racked up a staggering $628.9 million internationally since opening overseas on April 25, distributor Walt Disney Co said, positioning it to break the $1 billion threshold after just 19 days. "We're obviously thrilled," said Robert Iger, Disney's Chairman and CEO in a statement. "You can never anticipate this kind of success," echoed Dave Hollis, executive vice president for motion picture distribution. "It's a staggering result." Its success owed in large part to "a story that delivers on every level, to every segment of the audience," he added. The big-budget 3D flick - the first of Hollywood's lucrative summer season - unites Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America and other Marvel comic book heroes in a fight against a villain determined to destroy the planet. Disney announced this week it is planning an "Avengers" sequel. The movie took in $207.4 million at North American (U.S. and Canadian) theaters over its opening weekend, helping improve the performance of the studio, which earlier stumbled at box offices with its big-budget release "John Carter." "Avengers" mania overwhelmed new horror comedy "Dark Shadows," according to studio estimates compiled by Reuters. "Dark Shadows" pulled in an estimated $28.8 million from Friday through Sunday at domestic theaters. The latest collaboration between actor Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton, the $100 million "Dark Shadows" is based on the cult TV soap opera that ran from 1966 to 1971 about vampires, werewolves and witches living in a ghostly countryside manor. Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter also star. Studio executives said the total was in line with expectations of about $30 million. "We're hoping to leg it out over the next few weeks," said Dan Fellman, president of theatrical distribution for Warner Bros., referring to films developing "legs" and performing well for a period in the weeks after opening. Fellman noted that big May films coming up were not really competing for the same audience as "Dark Shadows," which drew more than 50 percent of its opening weekend audience from viewers 35 and older. "The audiences are applauding," he said, adding "There's a magic and chemistry that Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have had over the years, and we're hoping that will continue as we approach" the lucrative Memorial Day period. "We opened extremely well internationally," with $36.7 million, Fellman noted. In third place, romantic comedy "Think Like a Man" grossed $6.3 million during its fourth weekend in theaters. Teen survival drama "The Hunger Games," the year's biggest movie before "Avengers" came on the scene, finished the weekend in fourth place with $4.4 million. Fifth place belonged to love story "The Lucky One," which took in $4 million, with animated family film "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" coming in sixth at $3.2 million. Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, released "Dark Shadows" and "The Lucky One." "Think Like a Man" and "Pirates" were distributed by Sony Corp's Sony Pictures studio. Lions Gate Entertainment Corp released "Hunger Games. "'Source; China.org.cn
