HERBS CAN PROVIDE RELIEF FROM THE SYMPTOMS OF TONSILLITIS!
  • To get relief from the symptoms of tonsillitis, chamomile tea along with honey and lemon is a great remedy.
  • Dissolve powdered alum (phitkari) in water and use the same as a gargle.
  • Mix 1 tsp each of vacha (Acorus calamus) & mulethi (Glycyrrhiza glabra) powder with honey and take thrice daily.
  • Prepare a decoction by boiling a 5-6 leaves of basil with ginger rhizome and 2-3 cloves. Take 20 ml of the same with honey thrice daily.
  • Boil approx 12-15 g of banafsha (Viola odorata) flowers in 50 ml milk. Take warm twice a day. The filtered residue can be heated and tied around the throat as a poultice at night.
  • Prepare a gargle by simmering 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds for half an hour in a litre of water. For beneficial results use it for gargle twice daily.
  • Prepare black tea and add some salt to it. Use it as a gargle to get relief from the ailment.
  • Gargle with decoction prepared by boiling the bark of the acacia tree.
  • Take honey regularly for preventing as well as curing tonsillitis. It can also be taken with a glass of warm milk to soothe the throat.
  • Prepare a paste by boiling figs in water and apply externally on the throat area to provide a soothing effect.
  • Gargle with warm water boiled with some basil leaves.
  • The milk from raw papaya can be applied on the inflamed tonsils to get relief.

Some practice Yoga to help them deal with the day to day stress of a hectic life while for others it's a means of physical wellbeing. The health benefits of Yoga are numerous, helping some people lose weight and others breathe properly to improve their attention. Yoga has become the tool to help your mind and body stay healthy. But Yoga's higher purpose is to attain a state of perfect spiritual insight; its true purpose is to assist a Yogi,
a practitioner of Yoga, connect to the Divine within! Yoga stems from the Sanskrit word Yuj, meaning to "join" or "get united." The ultimate goal of Yoga is to unite one's soul with the Brahman, the Absolute Reality. The word, "Yoga" first appears in the Hindu scripture, Katha Upanishad, in Chapter 3 verse 11. The verse tells us the meaning and purpose of the Yoga, it says, "(10) When the five senses are stilled, when the mind Is stilled, when the intellect is stilled, That is called the highest state by the wise. (11)They say YOGA is this complete stillness In which one enters the unitive state, Never to become separate again. If one is not established in this state, The sense
of unity will come and go." Yoga philosophy recognizes that as there are many different types of individuals so there are many different paths to the Brahman, an individual may follow a path based on their temperament. All these paths are categorized in four practices, Gyan Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Raja Yoga. Here is how, Swami Vivekanada described each Yoga.: Gyan Yoga (aka Jnana Yoga): First: hearing the truth — that the Atman is the only reality and that everything else is Mâyâ (relativity). Second: reasoning upon this philosophy from all points of view. Third: giving up all further argumentation and realizing the truth. This realization comes from (1) being certain that Brahman is real and everything else is unreal; (2) giving up all desire for enjoyment; (3) controlling the senses and the mind; (4) intense desire to be free. Meditating on this reality always and reminding the soul of its real nature are the only ways in this Yoga. Karma Yoga: Karma-
Yoga is purifying the mind by means of work. The watchword of the Karma-Yogi is "not I, but Thou", and no amount of self-sacrifice is too much for him. But he does this without any desire to go to heaven, or gain name or fame or any other benefit in this world. Bhakti Yoga: Bhakti or worship or love in some form or other is the easiest, most pleasant and most natural way of man. The natural state of this universe is attraction; and that is surely followed by an ultimate disunion. Even so, love is the natural impetus of

union in the human heart; and though itself a great cause of misery, properly directed towards the proper object, it brings deliverance. The object of Bhakti is God. Love cannot be without a subject and an object. The object of love again must be at first a being who can reciprocate our love. Therefore the God of love must be in some sense a human God. He must be a God of love. Aside from the question whether such a God exists or not, it is a fact that to those who have love in their heart this Absolute appears as a God of love, as
personal. Raja Yoga: As each science has its particular method of investigation, so is this Raja-Yoga the method of religion. This science also is variously applied according to various constitutions. The chief parts are the Prânâyâma, concentration, and meditation. For those who believe in God, a symbolical name, such as Aum or other sacred words received from a Guru, will be very helpful. Aum is the greatest, meaning the Absolute. Meditating on the meaning of these holy names while repeating them is the chief practice of Raja Yoga. White and Foster recommend combining 1/3 ounce of chopped or powdered reishi mushroom with 3 cups of water, then bringing the tea to a boil and simmering for 30 minutes before drinking in doses.
Chai
Native to India, this soothing beverage is commonly made with rich black tea, milk, and a variety of spices, like cinnamon, ginger, or cardamom. A steaming hot mug of chai tea will help you get over an afternoon hump. An added bonus? Though you're automatically cutting your caffeine intake by drinking chai, the tea’s smooth, creamy flavor tricks your mind into thinking that it’s coffee!
Carob Powder
If a post-lunch slump has you running to the nearest Starbucks for an espresso shot, you may want to think about keeping a stash of caffeine-free carob powder in your desk drawer. Adding flaxseeds and flaxseed oil to a morning shake will have you up and running in the a.m. For an icy beverage both high in fiber and energy, blend flaxseeds with yogurt, soy milk, ice, and the frozen fruit of your choice. Subtly nutty flaxseeds also add a deliciously satisfying crunch to any smoothie. 
Prune Juice
With sugar and cream stirred in, coffee is one enticing morning treat. But next time you reach for your thermos, fill it with prune juice! The thick, crisp juice helps regulate the proper level of electrolytes in your body, which in turn leads to increased stamina, according to Staci Nix, author of Williams’ Basic Nutrition and Diet Therapy. Mother's values tied to baby's health

Washington, Dec 4 (IANS) The value an expectant mother places on her family can tell how healthy a baby is going to be three years later. These findings from University of Southern California (USC) suggest that one's culture is a resource that can provide tangible physical health benefits. "We know that social support has profound health implications. Yet in this case, this is more a story of beliefs than of actual family support," said Cleopatra Abdou, assistant professor at USC Davis School of Gerontology, the journal Social Science & Medicine reports. Abdou studied 4,633 socio-economically disadvantaged women, gauging their "familism" or, more specifically, their beliefs about familial roles and responsibilities, using a questionnaire, according to an USC statement. Familism was determined by responses to statements such as, "single moms can do just as well as married parents," or "it is better for children if their parents are married." Abdou then tracked the health of their children and found that for every one point increase in familism, there was a 71 gram increase in birth weight independent of a whole host of other factors-including the gender of the infant or whether the mother was married. Average birth weight in the United States is roughly 3.4 kg. Low birth weight, typically defined as under 2.5 kg, has been linked to health problems later in life. Higher familism also predicted lower rates of asthma in the children up to three years later. Though one might expect to see healthier children from mothers who reported strong family support, familism is a cultural measure that exists outside of an individual's actual circumstances. "Cultural beliefs and ideals can be distinct from one's present reality. Diet best answer for tests

Parents can help kids to eat properly and arrive in time on the big day Tomorrow morning an estimated 143,000 anxious students will sit NCEA exams - if they all turn up. Last year 3000 failed to show up for their big day. The main reasons were family emergencies, illness and transport problems. Nutritionist Nikki Hart said students should eat for exams just as athletes prepared for an event. For a morning exam Hart said proteins and carbohydrate the night before - such as macaroni cheese or spaghetti bolognaise - would be good. On the morning of the exam, a low-glycaemic-index meal, such as Vogel's toast with an egg or oat-based muesli with yoghurt and fruit, would get top marks. "That is a good way to start the day and it keeps your blood sugars nice and even," Hart said. Keeping hydrated was also very important. Taking a sports drink into the exam would hydrate as well as give the body extra carbohydrates. Hart advised steering clear of "brainfoods" such as blueberries and salmon unless the body was accustomed to them. "To have a brainy body you would eat that sort of thing all the time but because the body does not like surprises you would not introduce these around exam time." New Zealand Qualification Authority deputy chief executive Richard Thornton said preparation and parental involvement were the keys to success. "We are getting to crunch time and students need to make sure they are well prepared," Thornton said. Exams were a big part of NCEA achievement and students could access a great deal of information and study tips to help them get ready. Thornton said parents should have their own checklist to make sure they provided the best environment for their children to study and rest, ensuring they ate properly and were well prepared. Fifteen minutes of exercise a day can extend life expectancy

Berlin (dpa) – Taking a minimum of 15 minutes of exercise a day can extend life expectancy by up to three years, according to Germany’s Society of Neurologists and the Stroke Society. A regular program of exercise can reduce the risk of stroke, cardiovascular illness, cancer and diabetes. The advice is based on a study of over 400,000 participants in Taiwan whose health status was checked regularly over eight years.The study discovered that 15 minutes of exercise a day made a surprising contribution to improving overall health. The mortality rate for those who took the exercise was 14 percent lower than the inactive participants. Extrapolating the results over 30 years resulted in a projected extended life expectancy of three years as well as a reduced chance of developing cancer and diseases of the cardiovascular system. This is a group of more than 50 people so dedicated to preserving their sense of humour, and thereby their sanity, that they happily give up an hour of their sleep to practice hasya yoga, a workout for your funny bone.By simulating laughter and mirth, one can actually fool those endorphins into doing some overtime, says Madan Kataria, the founder of this unique form of exercise. “Feel-good chemicals are released in the brain when you laugh, but if you waited around for something funny to happen, you could go a whole day without cracking a smile. Now, isn't that a waste of a day?” he asks. Joining the group of merry people and taking a place in the laughing circle seems like a positive step towards health and happiness. Each session, with different kinds of laugh, lasts almost an hour, and consists of warm-up and breathing exercises as well. Then one undergoes the entire spectrum of delight: from grunts to giggles, from guffaws to crackles, from smirks to grins. The club consists mostly of people in the age group of 50 and above, and they say that they have derived real benefits from their morning ha-ha. Blood pressure has stabilised, stress-levels have been reduced and the heart is kept happy with this fantastic form of what they say amounts to "internal jogging". Ways of Barbecuing Healthy Diet Food

Barbecuing is a popular way of cooking meat, poultry and sea food. However, instead of eating stuff like hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages which add fat to your bodies and inches to your waistlines.
