What does Steve Smith’s Stateside signing mean for cricket in the US – and Australia?

Steve Smith, one of this generation’s finest batters, has conquered much of the cricketing world during his career, and he now has set his sights on a new frontier: the United States.

Yes, Smith has signed to play Twenty 20 (T20) cricket for the Washington Freedom, which happens to be coached by former Australian great Ricky Ponting.

Washington is one of six teams in Major League Cricket (MLC), which began in 2023. The Freedom finished third in the inaugural season, won by New York.

The 2024 season will begin in July before the US co-hosts the T20 World Cup with the West Indies.

A number of established cricket stars have already played in the US league, including Quinton de Kock of South Africa, Nicholas Pooran from the West Indies, Trent Boult from New Zealand and Australians Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch.

Major League Cricket has recruited some of the biggest names in the sport.

Looking ahead, T20 cricket has been included for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

So, why is cricket suddenly interested in the US – and does this interest go both ways?

Cricket in the US: what’s the go?

Cricket is slowly becoming better known in the US.

Firstly, it is because of the rising South Asian population who mostly love their cricket.

It is a growing and affluent professional community – the South Asian diaspora is growing at a rapid rate across North America to the point that when you fly into most large US cities, you can spot cricket pitches.

Many South Asian immigrants to the US (and Canada) are engineers, doctors and entrepreneurs with good educations and professional jobs – Indian-Americans are the most affluent group in America by median household income, while Sri Lankans and Pakistanis are two of the eight wealthiest segments.

In terms of education, 70% of Indian-Americans have at least a Bachelor’s degree, compared to the US average of 28%.

A lot of this affluence is ploughed into supporting local cricket leagues in the US and watching the MLC.

In terms of participation, cricket is still very much a niche sport in the US, with about 200,000 registered players. However, this has grown from around 30,000 registered players in 2006, with emigration from South Asia driving the lion’s share of growth.

Consuming cricket anytime, anywhere

Secondly, live streaming has taken off worldwide in recent years, allowing Indians in the US to watch India Premier League (IPL) games back home, and Indians in India to live stream MLC matches.

According to Chris Muldoon, chief strategy officer of Cricket NSW, there are more than 4 million subscribers to Willow TV’s cricket-only streaming service throughout North America.

This means it is easy for most cricket fans can consume what they want, when they want it.

The growth of cricket franchises

Thirdly, IPL franchises are launching clubs and leagues around the world – in South Africa, the UAE and the US – to grow the sport and to attract talent and revenue to their respective franchises.

There is a strong IPL presence across many of the domestic T20 competitions that have launched in recent years, including in MLS where four IPL franchises are involved with the foundation clubs in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and Seattle.

This is a big shift in cricket governance, as it is not just the cricket boards of Australia, England & Wales and India calling the shots on schedules – it is now the IPL franchises too.

What does this mean for Australian cricket?

So, how does all of this affect elite cricket in Australia?

Australian cricketers have been competing in T20 competitions around the world for years now, with Cricket Australia occasionally having to step in to reduce the workloads of some of its best players.

Now the MLC will force governing bodies and players to react to another competition in a packed cricket calendar.

According to Muldoon, the opportunity in the US is too big to ignore. He says:

The US is the world’s most sophisticated and competitive sports and media market and Major League Cricket presents the most exciting and challenging opportunity in world cricket.

The proliferation of franchise T20 cricket around the globe, much of it driven by the commercial success of the IPL as well as changing preferences of consumers, is changing the way cricket is consumed. And it is bringing new revenue into the sport – which in turn is making it increasingly attractive to the world’s best players and coaches to be a part of these growing franchise leagues around the world on an almost full-time basis.

Will cricket really take hold in the US?

So does Smith’s signing indicate a cricket revolution? Does the US aspire to be a cricket nation?

Probably not in terms of Test cricket, but in the US, the shortened format of T20 is possibly appealing.

This is largely driven by the South Asian diaspora who have migrated to North America, and T20 is the format that has the consumer appeal to attract eyeballs – and broadcast partners. The addition of cricket as an Olympic sport for Los Angeles in 2028 may also add to the sport’s exposure. The Conversation

Pietersen expresses love for Chelsea

Kevin Pietersen
New Delhi, May 4 (IANS) Former England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen expressed his love forPremier League club Chelsea FC here Sunday, and said he is friends with Chelsea stalwarts Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry. "Chelsea is my team. I am good friends with many players in Chelsea, including Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry. I live in Chelsea and train there too. I also underwent rehabilitation in Chelsea when I had my Achilles tendon injury," Pietersen said Sunday. The 33-year-old was at the Ambedkar Stadium here to announce the names of two children who will be the adidas FIFA Fairplay Flag Bearers. Six children, four to be selected from other cities, will head to Sao Paulo to see a World Cup pre-quarterfinal match. With Chelsea currently third in the Premier League standings with 78 points, Pietersen said clinching the title this year will be difficult for them. Manchester City and Liverpool are first and second, both on 80 points, and with only two rounds of matches to go, the club from Manchester look to be the favourites. "It is going to be difficult for Chelsea. With Manchester City winning 3-2 against Everton last night, they lead the standings and are favourites for the title. But Chelsea have already said they are targeting the title next year. You can't win every year," added Pietersen with a smile. The Delhi Daredevils captain also lauded Chelsea manager Jose Mourhinho. "He is outstanding as a manager. He makes the players play their best in the position they are put in and makes them the best in the world too. He takes the pressure off the players," concluded the tall Englishman. Source: ArticleImage: flickr.com

Evgeni Malkin - best scorer in the NHL and the World Cup

Photo: RIA Novosti
Evgeni Malkin is Russian hockey’s main hope in Sochi. “Geno” as the US fans call him, recently became the first hockey player in 30 years to match hockey legend Canadian Wayne Gretzky’s record – a feat that got him recognized as the best scorer both in the NHL and the World Cup. Experts are saying that the record-breaking forward will breaking even more records in the 2014 Winter Olympics
Evgeni Malkin was born to a family of hockey fans – his father used to play hockey himself so the first thing as soon as his sons could walk, they were taking to the skating rink. Evgeni started his career playing for the local Metallurg Magnitogorsk, fighting day in, day out to prove to his coaches that he was capable of big things. This was the attitude that got him picked for the Russian team. His debut on the international stage was a big success. With him on the team, in 2004, Russia won the youth World Cup. He and another star of the team Alexander Ovechkin were the first numbers in the NHL draft. But Malkin’s club didn’t want to let a talented hockey player go. As a result, in 2006, during a preseason tournament in Finland, Malkin abandoned the location of the team and a few days later showed up at the negotiations of the US "Pittsburgh Penguins". Russian fans were furious. Today Malkin says he does not regret this decision but says he’s not proud of it either. Malkin: There was a story (and everyone knows about it) when I did not quite leave Russia nicely, after I went to the NHL. And then, in my first official game and injured my shoulder. I thought maybe I was already punished from above for the way I acted. At the time, everything was bad
for me. This lasted for about a month. Then everything fell into place. In 2006 Malkin did triple duty for his national team. He was named the top forward of the 2006 World Junior Championship, bringing Russia to a second silver medal and gold medal game loss to Canada. Less than two months later, Malkin was given one of the final spots on Team Russia for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, where he helped the team to a fourth-place finish with 6 points in 7 games. At the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, he once again led the team in points with 3 goals and 6 points in 4 games. However, Malkin’s efforts didn’t bring Russians gold, they ultimately lost to Canada in the quarterfinals, finishing 6th overall - their worst placing ever at the Olympic Games. No wonder big things are expected from Evgeni in Sochi. After all, the Olympic champion trophy is the only one missing from his collection of awards. Source: Article

Diana Nyad: turning the Extreme Dream into reality

In case you have been too engrossed in the news coming from Syria or who is entering the semi-finals on America's Got Talent, on September 2nd, Diana Nyad achieved her goal of swimming from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida - a distance of 103 miles (110 miles when you take into account course corrections). This was her fifth attempt to cover this distance and she completed it at age sixty-four. I was honored to be a member of her shark watch team in 2011 in what was, technically, her second attempt - the first attempt being in 1978 and then she took a 30-year plus break from endurance swimming. (Click here for my follow up post to that event). I was asked to join her on her next later two attempts but schedules conflicted and I remained a spectator since then. (Other posts here and here.) For this last successful attempt, Diana had the best of weather and ocean conditions - calm, warm, and with obliging currents. The stretch between Cuba and Florida can be frought with changing, unpredictable currents that can push swimmers off course and sap their strength. This time, the currents were less of an issue; in fact, at one point, they worked to her advantage, giving her a push from behind which helped keep her overall speed high. One of the biggest challenges she had faced in previous attempts was the threat of stings from some of the warm water sea jellies that cruise through the area. In many years past, it was the threat of sharks that was always the primary concern. Ocean endurance swimmers have used shark cages in the water but, with time, those are now frowned upon as they nullify much of the effect of the currents. Some have described swimming in the cage as like swimming in a bath tub (previously, one swimmer had completed the Cuba-to-Florida swim using a shark cage and completing the distance in less than
30 hours, compared to Diana's time of 53 hours). But times have changed. Sharks are threatened by commercial fishing and illegal poaching, and so the chances for a shark encounter have dwindled, while the number of sea jellies has grown dramatically. Scientists do not yet have definitive answers as to why, but factors such as warming ocean temperatures, pollution, and the depletion of the sea jellies' natural predators could all play a role. For Diana, sea jellies were her major threat, as their powerful stings were deciding factors in her being unable to complete some of her previous attempts. For this final attempt, she had a specially designed, head-to-toe swimsuit and face mask that she would don during the day or night when sea jellies were anticipated. The use of this protective gear was no picnic. "To put that on [the protective suit] was like putting on a wedding gown in the ocean," said Steven Munatones, open water swimming coach and adviser to Diana in the past.  Diana's online web and social media team have done an excellent job in providing ongoing information and updates during her swim and in the many weeks and months of preparation leading up to the event. You can peruse through her website at www.diananyad.com. Beyond all the facts and details is the undeniable resolve of someone who had a goal gnawing at her, in the back of her mind, for several decades and who decided to achieve her goal despite the fact that she was getting into her 60s when she resumed training. Much has been written about her determination. And with each unsuccessful attempt there was an avalanche of support from fans and well-wishers, but there was always the specter of determination turning into obsession. It's a fine line: determination and obsession. Perhaps there is no difference, really. One may be applauded for their determination when they succeed and labeled a Captain Ahab obsessive when they fail. Or perhaps the difference lies in what the goal means to a larger audience. It could be determination when others can take something away from the experience that benefits their lives, their outlook on life and the world. And it's an obsession when it is a purely self-centered activity,
particularly when it is at the expense of others.  Working as I do with others in the ocean conservation community, I have had the opportunity to meet a variety of people, getting a sense of why they are so committed to what they are doing. Altruistic determination or self-centered obsession? I've seen both. The ones who I feel are making a true, quantifiable difference to either the science of ocean conservation or the education of those who are unaware of the extant of ocean conservation issues - those are the determined ones. The ones, like a Diana Nyad, who encourage people to realize that there are no limits, no goals that should be dismissed, at any age, when the end result is something that could benefit his or her fellow man. Diana's "Extreme Dream" has been reached and her next goal, her next challenge, will be to find a replacement. I'm sure she will be busy for some time on the speaking circuit and perhaps, beyond the technical feat of the Cuba-to-Florida swim, that will be her lasting legacy - how she turned determination into motivation for many others. Some of us will reach our own personal goals and many of us will not. But it will be the journey that will ultimately prove the measure of the individual, not the feat itself.  Which is why Diana Nyad's motto over these past years has always been "Onward!" Woman Who Cheated With Lamar Odom Passes Lie Detector Test

A second woman has come forward claiming she had an affair with Lamar Odom.
Polina Polonsky alleges she had a six-week relationship with the basketball player - who is married to Khloe Kardashian-Odom - earlier this summer and according to RadarOnline.com, she has passed a lie detector over her allegations. She told Star magazine: "I was under the impression that he had left Khloe, and that's why he was living at the Roosevelt [Hotel in Los Angeles]. "He acted completely available and we definitely had a mutual attraction." Polina, a lawyer, claims the basketball star had been living at the upmarket accommodation for over a week until he went back to her home and engaged in sexual activity with her and that she later went back to his plush hotel to meet him again. She explained: "After we had sex, Lamar stayed the night with me. "The next day we went back to the Roosevelt. I stayed there with him for the next couple of nights." Khloe and her mother Kris Jenner allegedly stormed over to the hotel to confront her beau and his secret lover, but according to Polina, Khloe turned up at the wrong door and smashed her fist through it. This isn't the only time the LA Clippers player has faced allegations of cheating, as Jennifer Richardson previously claimed Lamar had a year-long affair with her, beginning in January 2012, before she broke it off in March this year. Poetry’s Relationship With the Olympics

Champions of Verse - By TONY PERROTTET Published: June 29, 2012 - The New York Times Sports fans are not necessarily renowned for their literary tastes — their passions oft running less to soulful ruminations than to beer-fueled stadium chants — so Olympics observers may be flummoxed by the sudden proliferation of poetry related to the 2012 Games. This weekend, international poets have converged on London to orate in 50 languages at a festival called Poetry Parnassus, with 100,000 copies of their collected work to be dropped by helicopter on the venue by the Thames. Another poetic project, “The Written World,” will feature a poem from each of the 204 competing Olympic countries read live and broadcast daily by the BBC. And verse has been engraved on plaques of stone, metal and wood emblazoned at strategic points throughout the Olympic Park, for the edification of athlete and spectator alike. Yet the relationship between poetry and the Olympics goes back to the very origins of the Games. In ancient Greece, literary events were an indispensable part of athletic festivals, where fully clothed writers could be as popular with the crowd as the buff athletes who strutted about in the nude, gleaming with olive oil. Spectators packing the sanctuary of Zeus sought perfection in both body and mind. Champion athletes commissioned great poets like Pindar to compose their victory odes, which were sung at lavish banquets by choruses of boys. (The refined cultural ambience could put contemporary opening ceremonies, with their parade of pop stars, to shame.) Philosophers and historians introduced cutting-edge work, while lesser-known poets set up stalls or orated from soapboxes. Source: Beattie's Book Blog

Beckham to promote football in China: will he keep the fee?

AS IF David Beckham has not got enough on his plate what with learning French, the former England captain may also have to take Mandarin classes after becoming China's first global soccer ambassador. The curious appointment will see the veteran midfielder attend league matches in China and visit clubs in the country to promote the game to children, while at the same time playing for Paris Saint-Germain in the French league. The 37-year-old seemed undaunted by the challenge and declared that he was "honoured to have been asked to play such an important role at this special time in Chinese football history". The Chinese Football Association [CFA] said it hoped that Beckham would "attract global attention to Chinese football and the CSL [Chinese Super League]". The appointment comes on the eve of the 10th CSL season and 20 years after the game turned professional in China. However, things have not gone smoothly for the sport in recent times. Former Chelsea stars Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka were lured to the country but failed to make an impression. Both players are now back in Europe. Last month the country's top referee, who took charge of a game at the 2002 World Cup, was jailed for five-and-a-half years for taking bribes to fix matches. He was one of nine people convicted after a widespread corruption probe. The CFA also handed out 33 lifetime bans and 25 five-year bans to other players and officials caught up in the scandal. "With the rot so widespread in Chinese football, little wonder the CFA opted for an outsider – someone with clean hands (and feet) – as its ambassador," said the Financial Times. "Chinese officials expect his popularity and influence to restore the game's credibility in their country," reported the Daily Mail. However, there are questions over how much Beckham, who is donating his salary from PSG to charity, will be paid in his new job. Italian sports paper Gazzetta Dello Sport claims the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star could be paid as much as £50m over five years for promoting Chinese football. That claim has been angrily denied in the Chinese media. A CSL spokesman told the People's Daily newspaper that the fee was around £1.7m and would be paid by a "partner company of the International Management Group". Whatever the fee, it is not yet clear whether Beckham will keep the money or donate that too. ISource: The Week UK

New Alfa Romeo 6C Cuore Sportivo Design Concept

The last great sports car to be produced by Alfa Romeo was the 8C Competizione offered in limited numbers between 2007 and 2010, which shared its platform and V8 engine with the Maserati GranTurismo. For the near future, the Italians have promised us at least two new sports models, the 4C mid-engine coupe and the next Mazda MX-5-based Spider, both of which are expected to be less spectacular than the 8C, but also much more affordable. Whether Alfa Romeo will venture again into the upper echelons of the sports car segment remains a mystery for now, but two fans of the
Italian brand, George M. and Florian J, who both work in the automotive industry, have come up with a fresh conceptual idea for a striking GT named the 6C Cuore Sportivo. Florian told CarScoop that the concept pays homage to Alfa Romeo's past coupes while also looking into the future of the brand. We'll let Florian do the rest of the talking about the study from here in the email he sent to us: "Designed in tribute to the great Alfa Romeo GT coaches, the 6C Cuore Sportivo consequently takes the features of different past models from the company, through a modern approach, and in the continuity of the 8C Competizione. This project, evoking different periods standing for the peak of the Milanese firm was born from a discussion Alfa-Romeo-6C-2
between two Alfisti passionate professionals working in the automotive industry, George M. and Florian J. From the front inspired by the 30s through the 6C 2500 Sport Touring Berlinetta, to the back oriented like the 8C Competizione as the 60s proudly represented by 33 Stradale, the car clearly adopts the genes of Biscione, acquired through its glorious history. Mingling classic curves and sharp lines, 6C fully assumes its neo retro look. If the front, dissociated, differs from the more unified rear, the global style of the car is guided by the V-shape or boomerang, which is mainly represented by the grille. This geometry is particularly found in lights, lateral outlets and exhaust. Addition to door handles dissimulated in the same way as on the 156, there is also the Quadrifoglio Verde which enables door opening." Designers: Source: Carscoop

Maxxport set to launch women’s range, open 15 EBOs

With the legacy of successful cricket gear brand LG backing it, Maxxport, a sportswear brand catering to men was launched last year. As per the business strategy, the company is now concentrating on improving brand recognition across the country apart venturing into the women’s sportswear arena. Explains Paras Anand, Director Marketing, Sanspareils Greenlands that owns both the brands, LG and Maxxport, “We are a male-centric brand as of now since we come from a cricketing background. But apart from launching a winter range in September, we are working on a women’s range as well. We are also planning to introduce a light-weight running shoe in October.” Also on the agenda is improving brand visibility in the next 12 months. “By the end of 2013, we are thinking of having at least 15 EBOs in major cities of,” he adds. The company currently has 30 shop-in-shops. Elaborating on the retail presence, Anand says, “In Bangalore, we have four shop-in-shops, of 150 to 200 sq. ft. And we have two exclusive outlets. One is in Ludhiana and the other in Meerut. A third is coming up soon in Delhi. We will then think of having EBOs in Bangalore and Mumbai. Our EBOs are franchise-based. In every city, we have reached through our distribution network. With our existing distribution network of cricket equipment, we already reach 1,500 sports stores. Although we haven’t been able to place our apparels in all these stores, we’ll plan to do it soon.” The company was launched in 1931 in Sialkot, Pakistan by Anand’s grandfather Kedarnath Anand. Indian operations began in 1948. Since 1931, it has been into sports equipment supplies all over the world. In 1970, it entered the domestic market and in 2011, the company diversified into sportswear with Maxxport brand. Maxxport caters to people active in sports. The range includes tops and lowers, which make for a complete range of sports apparel like gym wear, soccer wear, walking shoes, running shoes, track pants, shorts, round neck T-shirts, polo T-shirts, tight skin fit T-shirts and so on. “I don’t think you will find such a range in Indian brands. Although we use the same fabrics as international brands use, our prices are very reasonable,” Anand exclaims. Cricketer Rahul Dravid is the brand ambassador for Maxxport. The philosophy of the brand is about challenging yourself. “It’s about an individual who works very hard to achieve great heights,” opines Anand, adding that Rahul Dravid exactly signifies what the brand is all about— defying obstacles and achieving goals through determination. He sums up by saying, “In 10 years we want to consolidate our sports gear business and in sportswear, we are looking at a turnover of Rs 500 crores in 10 years.”Source: Fashion United

New Photos and Details of Peugeot's Onyx Supercar Concept, gets a 680HP V8 Diesel-Hybrid Powertrain

Set to be one of the most impressive concepts at this year's edition of the Paris Motor Show, the Onyx is Peugeot's vision of what a 21st century supercar should be. The concept's sharply styled body features wings and doors that are handmade from pure copper sheet, and whose appearance Peugeot says will change over time gaining a patina, while the other panels are from carbon fibre painted matte black. The Onyx incorporates  some design references to the RCZ such as the ‘double-bubble’ roof and aluminium arches, but overall, it's a unique looking model. "The silhouette of the Onyx is sculpted softly, sensuously, but it is also alive and technological," explains Sandeep Bhambra, Onyx Exterior Stylist. "From the first sketches I wanted to create a showcase for technological excellence and craftsmanship by combining elements  demonstrating high
aerodynamic performance, Black Diamond lamps and copper bodywork panels fashioned by hand." The study is 4.65m long, 2.20m wide and 1.13m tall, and according to Peugeot, has a drag coefficient of 0.30 and tips the scales at just 1,100kg (2,425 pounds). The Onyx is built around a carbon fiber central structure that consists of 12 parts and weighs only 100kg (220  pounds). Power comes from a diesel-hybrid drivetrain comprising a 3.7-litre V8 hybrid HDi FAP engine (and not a 1.6-liter unit as previously rumored) capable of delivering 600-horses to the rear wheels via a 6sp sequential gearbox and a kinetic energy system that turns braking power to electricity that is stored in a set of lithium-ion batteries and which can offer an
additional 80hp. The concept features double wishbone and an in-board controlled suspension on both ends, while braking power is provided by four carbon discs, 380mm at the front and 355mm at the rear. It is fitted with tires specially developed by Michelin, size 275/30 at the front and 345/30 at the rear, with 20-inch lightweight alloy rims. The passenger compartment of the Onyx sports a minimalistic design and plenty of light thanks to the glass roof. Unusually, the concept doesn't feature traditional seats but two separated areas with Peugeot using foam under the felt, in the areas of contact with the body. "For the interior, I was inspired by an everyday object, the egg box. With remarkable economy of material, it protects very fragile items. I adapted the concept into an intuitive space, with a minimum of connected parts, to become one with the car," explained Julien Cueff, Onyx Interior Stylist. Other highlights include the materials used in the interior such as the dashboard that is made from recycled newspapers that are compressed to create new ‘logs’ from which the parts are made. Peugeot says this material is named "Newspaper Wood". Needless to say, Peugeot has no plans to produce the Onyx. Source: Carscoop

Tendulkar, Rekha recommended for Rajya Sabha membership

News Bullet, STAR News Bureau, New Delhi: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and actress of yesteryear Rekha are among four eminent persons who have been recommended for nomination as members of Rajya Sabha. Earlier, Congress has proposed to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar that he be party's nominee to Rajya Sabha. The proposal was made to Sachin on Thursday. Earlier in the day, Sachin and his wife Anjali met Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence in New Delhi. Officially the meeting was to invite Sonia for the upcoming matches of Mumbai Indians. On the proposal, there is no official comment from Sachin as it is understood that he will take some time before arriving at any decision. Sachin's wife Anjali Tendulkar arrives at 10 Janpath to meet Sonia Gandhi.Prime Minister Manmohan Singh sent a communication to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday which has been sent to President Pratibha Patil for notification, sources said. Article 80 of the Constitution provides for nomination of persons having special knowledge or practical experience in matters such as literature, science, art and social service. Sonia wanted to meet the batting great and personally congratulate him on achieving the historic feat of scoring 100 international centuries recently. Senior BCCI functionary and IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla was also present at Sonia Gandhi's residence. According to sources, Tendulkar and his wife spent close to half an hour with Sonia. Tendulkar, who turned 39 on Tuesday, had to wait for more than one year to move from 99 hundreds to the landmark 100th century before finally achieving it in an Asia Cup match against Bangladesh on March 16. BJP has welcomed the move of the government. There are reports that the government may ask President to nominate Sachin as Rajya Sabha member as five seats are vacant in the house. Rekha Former cricketers Saba Karim and Vinod Kambli welcomed the proposal and told STAR News that Sachin's nomination to Rajya Sabha will help cricket and sports at large. Saba Karim felt that the kind of stature Sachin has held for over twenty years, he can use the same for the welfare of the masses. Tendulkar's nomination to Rajya Sabha has come as a surprise against the backdrop of a long-standing demand for conferring of Bharat Ratna on him for his contribution to the game. Many experts and observers feel that Sachin is actively involved in playing cricket and may not accept the offer. They point out that he has been a most apolitical person and not even been associated with a political cause. Although, he is going to be nominated but the fact will remain that the Congress has recommended his name. Sachin should get into Rajya Sabha after his retirement: Ashoke Pandit Director Ashoke Pandit tweeted about the proposed Rajya Sabha nomination of Sachin Tendulkar. He said, "Sachin shd be and surely he is intelligent enough not to get used by political parties.Cong.offers him RS seat & BJP Bharat Ratna." His other tweets on Sachin are as follows: "Sachin will fail if he bats for Congress in Rajya Sabha. His image of an apolitical sportsman will be tarnished.", "Sachin Tendulkars entry into Rajya Sabha is the end of his Cricket carrier.", "Sachin tendulkar shd get into Rajya Sabha after his retirement from cricket.", "Does Sachin Tendulkar want to associate with those who have looted the country with so many scams.", "By getting Sachin Tendulkar in Rajya Sabha it will not help Congress in any way." - with PTI inputs, Source: News Bullet,

It's a Racing World: Auto Inspired Office Furniture

Carscoop: We all like us some car flavored decorative pieces in our office setup, but Intro-Automotive is proposing something a little bit more radical with a motorsports-inspired lineup of office furniture. The California-based company, which is a manufacturer of car floor mats, covers and sunshades, markets the office products underthe PitStop brand. The range includes two
different office chair designs in the shape of a body-hugging bucket seat with some interesting details like the billet aluminum shifter knob that controls the height mechanism and the brake caliper base above the wheels. Since no office setup is complete without a desk, PitStop offers a similarly styled counter that is available in three different shades and
features lockable racing wheels and metal racing shocks. The company's website doesn’t include pricing but a quick search on the all-knowing Google tells us that both the racing chairs and desks start from around $399 a piece. Source: Carscoop

Adidas by Stella McCartney

T-Shirt and Tails: I recently met up with the team from 'Adidas by Stella McCartney' to talk me through the latest range. It was great to meet up with the girls who were extremely enthusiastic and informative about the collection (which sadly, is not as common as you would think amongst brands). I was already a fan of the collaboration, between the designer and the sports brand, but had yet to try it in person. The team kindly sent some of
the designs from the recent collection to road test. The range succeeds in creating both functional and luxurious pieces that are also completely wearable. This is incredibly important when you're heading down to your local gym (particularly in my case where half of my work are members). My personal favourites from the collection are the running leggings (top image) and the yoga hooded jumper (above right), which is so comfortable that I
have taken to wearing it round the house at all times. The prices range from £40 for a vest to £300 for a waterproof jacket, so are definitely at the more expensive end. However if you're looking for comfortable and design-led sportswear, that will set you apart in your spinning class, then it's the perfect choice. Source: T-Shirt and Tails
