US election results LIVE America Is Great Again', Trump becomes 45th President

President Donald Trump followed by his family arrives at his election night rally in New York. Image: https://pixabay.com
Following his shocking win, Hillary Clinton called Donald Trump to concede the election.

Washington: Donald Trump has stunned America and the world, riding a wave of populist resentment to defeat Hillary Clinton in the race to become the 45th president of the United States.

The Republican mogul defeated his Democratic rival, plunging global markets into turmoil and casting the long-standing global political order, which hinges on Washington's leadership, into doubt.

"Now it is time for America to bind the wounds of division," Trump told a crowd of jubilant supporters in the early hours of Wednesday in New York.

"I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans."

During a bitter two-year campaign that tugged at America's democratic fabric, the bombastic tycoon pledged to deport illegal immigrants, ban Muslims from the country and tear up free trade deals.

His message appears to have been embraced by much of America's white majority, disgruntled by the breath and scope of social change and economic change in the last eight years under their first black president, Barack Obama.

Here are the live updates:

PM Narendra Modi congratulated Donald Trump on being elected as US President, said he looks forward to working together to enhance ties.

Donald Trump says it's "time for us to come together," pledges to be president "for all Americans.

**********

President-elect Donald Trump says Hillary Clinton called him to congratulate him on his victory.

Trump, addressing supporters at his victory party in New York City, said Wednesday that he "congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard-fought campaign."

He added that "we owe her a major debt of gratitude" for her service.

The gracious sentiment was a far cry from Trump's usually heated rhetoric about Clinton. He has suggested that she should go to jail and chants of "Lock her up!" were a staple at his campaign rallies.

Trump wins Wisconsin.

**********

Republican Roy Blunt of Missouri re-elected to Senate.

**********

Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta says her campaign will have nothing to say tonight about state of race.

**********

Hillary Clinton wins the statewide vote in Maine. Clinton has won one of the state's congressional districts, giving her three electoral votes. Trump has won one district in the state and wins one electoral vote.

Trump also won the remaining congressional district in Nebraska, which gives him another electoral vote.

Clinton now has 218 electoral votes. Her Republican opponent has 266, just four shy of the threshold needed to be elected president.

**********

Donald Trump wins Pennsylvania and its prize of 20 electoral votes.

Trump's stunning victory in the key battleground state gives him 264 electoral votes. Trump's opponent, Hillary Clinton, has 215.

Pennsylvania last voted for a Republican for president in 1988. Trump repeatedly campaigned there, believing his populist message would resonate with the state's working-class voters.

Clinton long viewed the state as a key part of her "firewall" and rallied in Philadelphia with President Barack Obama on Monday night. The Democrats also held their nominating convention in the city.

**********

Republicans will retain control of Senate after win in Pennsylvania if they hold Louisiana, Alaska as expected.

**********

Republican Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania re-elected to Senate.

**********

Hillary Clinton wins Nevada and its six electoral votes. Her victory there in the presidential election brings Clinton's Electoral College total to 215.

Republican Donald Trump has 244 votes. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

Clinton's win in Nevada is the first time since the 1940s that the Democrats have carried the state in three consecutive elections.

The winner of the US presidential election has failed to carry Nevada only once.

**********

Republican Eric Greitens elected Missouri governor.

**********

Democrat Jay Inslee of Washington state wins re-election as governor.

**********

Donald Trump wins Utah. The Republican nominee was awarded its six electoral college votes.

He now has 238 electoral votes. His Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton has 209.

Utah is normally one of the safest states on the map for Republicans. But the presence of independent Evan McMullin changed the calculation this year as polls consistently reflected a tight three-way race. Trump also had struggled with Mormons, who are normally reliably Republican voters.

**********

Kate Brown has been re-elected governor of Oregon over Republican newcomer Bud Pierce.

**********

Republican Lt. Gov. Phil Scott has won election as governor of Vermont. He defeated Democrat Sue Minter.

**********

Donald Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton in the state of Iowa inching closer to winning the White House in a shock upset, television networks projected.

The midwestern US state has six Electoral College votes, moving the Manhattan property mogul closer to the total of 270 needed to claim the US presidency.

**********

Donald Trump wins Georgia. The Republican nominee was awarded its 16 electoral votes.

Trump now has 232 electoral votes while his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton has 209. The Democrats had some hopes that changing demographics in Georgia could allow then to flip the reliably Republican state but their efforts fell short.

**********

Indian-American Kamala Harris scripts history, wins US Senate seat from California.

**********

Hillary Clinton has won Washington state and its 12 electoral votes.

The victory in Tuesday's elections brings the former secretary of state's electoral vote total to 209. Republican Donald Trump has 216.

**********

Donald Trump wins North Carolina and its 15 electoral votes.

The victory in Tuesday's elections brings the billionaire's electoral vote total to 216. Democrat Hillary Clinton has 197.

North Carolina was one of the hardest-fought contests of the election and is one of the map's newest swing states. It consistently went for Republicans until Barack Obama captured it in 2008. Republican Mitt Romney narrowly won the state in 2012.

**********

Hillary Clinton wins Oregon.

**********

Indian-American Raja Krishnamoorthi wins election to US House of Representatives from Illinois.

**********

Hillary Clinton wins California and Hawaii. Donald Trump wins Idaho's four electoral votes.

**********

Donald Trump wins Florida.

**********

Hillary Clinton wins Colorado.

**********

Hillary Clinton wins Virginia. Virginia has 13 electoral college votes and while the state's south leans Republican, its heavily-populated north -- which neighbors the capital Washington -- is staunchly Democratic, and helped put Clinton over the top.

Donald Trump won the key battleground state of Ohio, boosting his chances of pulling off an upset win in presidential election.

**********

Trump wins Missouri.

Hillary Clinton wins New Mexico.

**********

Republican Richard Burr of North Carolina re-elected to the Senate.

**********

Donald Trump wins Montana.

Republican Gary Herbert has been re-elected governor of Utah.

Herbert had a strong advantage in Tuesday's elections and was considered the favorite in the conservative state. But many Utah conservatives were not enthused about GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. And Herbert had vacillated on his support for the New York billionaire.

Trump clinched the Presidency by winning most battleground states.

Donald Trump wins Louisiana and its eight electoral votes.

That extends his Electoral College total in Tuesday's elections to 137, compared with Hillary Clinton's 104.

**********

Clinton wins Connecticut. The result was not a surprise, as Connecticut was considered a safely Democratic state.

Clinton now has 104 electoral votes. Her Republican opponent Donald Trump has 129.

**********

Republican Eric Holcomb elected governor of Indiana; Democrat Jim Justice elected governor of West Virginia.

**********

Republican Johnny Isakson of Georgia re-elected to Senate.

**********

Republican Donald Trump wins Arkansas and its six electoral votes. The result was expected. Earlier polling showed Trump leading Clinton by double digits in the state where she served as first lady for 12 years while her husband was the governor.

**********

In Florida, which has 29 Electoral College votes, Trump has taken a lead of about 77,000.

**********

Hillary Clinton has won Rhode Island and its four electoral votes. That brings her total Tuesday to 48, compared with Donald Trump's 60. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

Rhode Island has voted for Republicans for president only four times since 1928.

In 2012, President Barack Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the state by about 27 percent.

**********

Donald Trump has won Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas and Nebraska while Hillary Clinton has won New York and Illinois.

Trump also on Tuesday won two of Nebraska's congressional districts. In the state that awards by congressional district, one remains too close to call.

Trump was awarded Texas' 38 electoral votes, the second-largest prize on the map. He also won six from Kansas, four from his victories in Nebraska and three apiece from Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Clinton was awarded 20 from Illinois and 29 from New York, the state both candidates call home. Trump had declared he would try to win New York but never mounted a serious effort there.

The Republican nominee now has 123 electoral votes. Clinton has 97.

**********

Donald Trump has won Alabama and its nine electoral votes after Sen. Jeff Sessions endorsed the billionaire candidate. That brings Trump's total in the Electoral College to 60 votes, to Clinton's 44 votes.

It takes 270 votes to win the presidency. The results continue the state's streak of voting for Republicans every presidential election since 1980.

**********

Donald Trump has won Tennessee and its 11 electoral votes.

Tuesday's vote is the fifth presidential contest in a row in which the state voted for the Republican candidate. That includes the 2000 election, when native son Al Gore lost the state to Republican George W. Bush.

It takes 270 votes to win the presidency.

**********

Donald Trump has won South Carolina. The Republican nominee was awarded the state's nine electoral votes, giving him 40 for the night. The result was expected as the state has long been a Republican stronghold.

**********

Democrat Hillary Clinton has won Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware and the District of Columbia while Republican Donald Trump has captured Oklahoma.

Clinton was awarded Massachusetts' 11 electoral votes, 10 from Maryland, 14 from New Jersey and three each from Delaware and the nation's capital, giving her 44 for the night. Trump picked up seven from Oklahoma, giving him 31.

The results Tuesday were not surprising. Massachusetts and the District of Columbia are two of the nation's safest Democratic strongholds.

The last time Oklahoma went for a Democrat was 1964, when it voted for Lyndon Johnson. Maryland last went for the GOP in 1988. New Jersey has been a safe Democratic state for 20 years. Its governor, Chris Christie, is a close Trump ally but is saddled with low approval numbers.

**********

Republican Donald Trump has won West Virginia and its five electoral votes. The Mountain State was one of the billionaire's biggest supporters in the Republican primary. He is popular for promising to bring back coal jobs. Hillary Clinton had largely been largely shunned for making comments perceived as an affront to the industry.

The dynamic has resulted in one of the few states where Republicans didn't shy from the brash businessman and instead looked to ride his coattails. Many Democrats for congressional and other races scrambled to distance themselves from Clinton and refused to endorse her.

West Virginia has voted for Republican presidential candidates in each of the last four presidential races. It takes 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

**********

Republican Donald Trump has won Kentucky and Indiana while Democrat Hillary Clinton has won Vermont. Trump was awarded Kentucky's eight electoral votes and Indiana's 11. Vermont gives Clinton three. These are the first states to be decided Tuesday in the 2016 general election.

The wins were expected. Vermont has voted for a Democrat every election since 1988, while Kentucky has gone Republican every cycle since 2000. Indiana is normally a Republican stronghold but went for President Barack Obama in 2008. The Republicans captured it again in 2012 and Trump's running mate, Mike Pence, is the state's governor. The winning candidate needs 270 electoral votes. Source: The Asian Age:

Storms, tornadoes batter US; toll 43
Pedestrians on the campus of Texas Tech University pause for a photo amid snow in Lubbock. Storms hit the US South and Midwest over the Christmas holiday weekend, unleashing floods and tornadoes. afp
tribuneindia.com: CHICAGO, December 28Strong and gusty thunderstorms with tornadoes were threatening the US Gulf Coast on Monday, following tornadoes and floods over the Christmas holiday season that killed at least 43 people in the South and Midwest and snarled transportation during a busy travel time. The strongest storms will be in Alabama, Mississippi and the Florida panhandle, said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Michael Leseney. Tornado warnings were already in effect in Alabama, meaning a tornado had been sighted. To the north, the Chicago area was being hit by sleet, which was expected to turn to rain, while snow was falling in Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan and parts of western Missouri, Leseney said. The heaviest snow, over a foot (30 cm), was expected insouthwestern Wisconsin across and southeastern Minnesota, Leseney said. Winter storms that brought ice and high winds to Oklahoma over the weekend led to snapped power lines, with 54,000 customers without power on Monday morning in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas, Oklahoma Gas & Electric said. Local news reports said there were 100,000 without power across the state. At least 17,000 customers were without power in Texas on Monday morning, according to major utility companies. Flight delays and cancellations were mounting, with 2,439 delays and 1,017 cancellations as of 8 am. CST (1400 GMT), according to the FlightAware website. A flash flood warning was in effect in eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois, the National Weather Service said. Flash floods over the weekend killed at least 13 people in Missouri and Illinois. In Missouri, Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency on Sunday, saying continued rains would make already widespread flooding conditions worse. Three adults and two children were killed near the village of Patoka, Illinois, when their car was washed away by floodwaters on Saturday night. In Texas, at least 11 people were killed in the Dallas area over the weekend by tornadoes, including one packing winds of up to 200 miles per hour (322 km per hour). — Reuters. Source: http://www.tribuneindia.com/

What is Dreamfuel?

There is an assumption that all Olympians, Olympic hopefuls and elite athletes have sponsors. This is far from the case, as 85% of Olympic hopefuls’ income is less than 15k USD / year. Dreamfuel is the premier high-level crowd-funding platform specifically designed by and for athletes. We work with each athlete or athletic organization to tap into the community that surrounds them, thereby engaging new fans and supporters along the way. As a result, we are able to create and enhance a global community that will benefit the athlete’s direct needs as well as help to build a long- term fan base. Our goal is to provide athletes with a new revenue stream to support their incredible efforts outside of or in addition to the traditional means of sponsorship's and governing body stipends. Courtesy: www.dreamfuel.me/, Open Images In browser To Find Its Source Of Sharing.

US ‘Batman’ killed in car accident

Leonard Robinson, dressed as Batman, visits the Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. (Photo: AP)
AFPWashington: A man known for dressing up in a Batman superhero costume to cheer up sick children in hospital was struck and killed on a US highway after his “Batmobile” broke down, reports said. Lenny Robinson, 51, had got out of his Lamborghini, customised to resemble the Caped Crusader’s “Batmobile”, on an unlit stretch of highway in Maryland Sunday night to check the engine when it was struck by another vehicle, slamming the car into him. He died at the scene, the Washington Post said. Robinson, who lived in Maryland and was a father of three boys, worked in the cleaning business before buying an elaborate Batman costume and car, the Post reported. He spent his free time striding into hospitals across the state,
northwest of Washington, visiting sick children, handing out gifts and signing autographs as “Batman”. Robinson spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on his superhero-themed car and it took him 45 minutes to put on the outfit and makeup, the Post reported. He became an Internet sensation in 2012 after police footage of him being pulled over in full costume for his Batman licence plates went viral. His brother Scott told the Post that he was utterly dedicated to his charity work, “He was my brother, my business partner, my best friend.”Source: The Asian Age

NASA astronauts eat space-grown food

NASA Logo (Meatball) on Goddard B29
Monday on the International Space Station, a batch of romaine lettuce became the first food grown and consumed in space. The leaves were harvested from NASA's experimental plant growth system called Veg-01, a microgravity environment in which plants grow from seed "pillows" under primarily red and blue LED lights. In 2014, an astronaut on NASA Expedition 39 grew and harvested the first plants from Veg-01 and then sent the plants back to Earth for food safety analysis. This time around, the crew members of Expedition 44, including astronaut Scott Kelly, who is four months into a yearlong space mission, got to enjoy the bounty. Kelly activated the seed pillows on July 8, and then tended to the plants for 33 days before harvesting. While this isn't NASA's first experiment designed to test the growth of plants in controlled-environment agriculture settings (scientists previously designed a habitation to grow plants on the moon), this is the first and only experiment to evaluate the effect of plant life on humans in space. Source: ArticleImage: flickr.com

Floyd Mayweather beats Manny Pacquiao in 'Fight of the century' boxing bout

Manny Pacquiao never able to land a sustained volume of punches. (Photo: AP)
Floyd Mayweather Jr. was money once again in the richest fight ever. Mayweather used his reach and his jab Saturday night to frustrate Manny Pacquiao, piling up enough points to win a unanimous decision in their welterweight title bout. Mayweather remained unbeaten in 48 fights with a win that cemented his legacy as the best of his generation. Here's how the action unfolded: Pacquiao did what he wanted to do, chasing Mayweather around the ring most of the fight. But he was never able to land a sustained volume of punches, often looking frustrated as Mayweather worked his defensive wizardry once again. Two ringside judges scored the fight 116-112, while the third had it 118-110. The Associated Press had Mayweather ahead 115-113. "I'm a calculated fighter, he is a tough competitor. My dad wanted me to do more but Pacquiao is an awkward fighter," Mayweather said. The richest fight in boxing history - a bout that made Mayweather at least $180 million - wasn't the best. Far from it, with long periods where both fighters fought cautiously, looking for an edge. There were no knockdowns, and neither fighter seemed terribly hurt at any time. Pacquiao landed
probably the biggest punch in the fight in the fourth round - a left hand that sent Mayweather into the ropes - but he wasn't able  to consistently land against the elusive champion. The fight was a chess match, with Mayweather using his jab to keep Pacquiao away most of the fight. Pacquiao tried to force the action, but Mayweather was often out of his reach by the time he found his way inside. "I thought I won the fight, he didn't do anything. I got him many times with a lot of punches," Pacquiao said. A sellout crowd at the MGM Grand arena roared every time Pacquaio threw a punch, but a good percentage of what he threw never landed. Mayweather often came back with straight right hands, then moved away before Pacquiao could respond. Ringside punch stats showed Mayweather landing 148 punches of 435, while Pacquiao landed 81 of 429. The volume of punches for Pacquiao was a lot lower than the 600-700 he usually throws in a fight as he tried to measure his aggression against an opponent who was hard to trap. Source: The Asian Age

US: Woman finds live snake in bag of potatoes

A Pennsylvania woman received quite a surprise in a bag of potatoes she purchased from a local Walmart store. Bonnie Raygor said that what she thought was a bad potato turned out to be a live, 3 1/2-foot snake. Raygor purchased the potatoes a week ago, but didn't open the bag until she went to cook dinner on Thursday evening. "First I saw its underbelly, which is white. I thought I had a bad potato. Instead I had a snake," said Raygor. "The bag was sealed. The only thing that's in it are little holes. So I'm assuming it was in there when I bought it. I screamed." Raygor and her daughter-in-law put the snake inside a reptile enclosure she had from previous pets and then called Walmart. Upon calling the store she was told to bring the snake to the lawn and garden department where they would
take care of it. Unhappy with their response she called and spoke with a manager. "He said if I had a receipt, I could get a refund. And that was the extent," Raygor said. A spokesperson for Walmart told WTAE they were looking into the situation and are contacting the potato distributor, Irving Farms Marketing in Caribou, Maine. Raygor said she looked on the Internet and believes the snake is just a corn snake. Source: Article

Police Investigate Justin Bieber Over Nightclub Brawl

Justin Bieber
Over the weekend, Justin Bieber was caught up in an incident at a nightclub in Southhampton, New York, that escalated into a brawl and put one person in the hospital. Police are now investigating the incident over allegations the singer instigated the fight at South Pointe and directed his entourage. The pop star reportedly got involved in a verbal confrontation with another clubgoer and was escorted to a waiting car by security guards before the brawl spilled out into the parking lot. Clubber Wayne Rennalls, 22, had to be hospitalized for a black eye and bruised ribs. He later filed a report with police. Although Bieber was reportedly not involved in the physical fight, he was photographed climbing out of his car's sunroof and standing on the hood as the fight escalated. An onlooker told the New York Post, "It
escalated outside when we heard Bieber yelling and talking s**t... He was screaming in Wayne's direction, 'Punk b**ch!' Wayne thought somebody threw something at him. Wayne picked up a small rock and threw it back towards Justin. That's when Wayne heard someone yell, 'You done f**ked up now.' Justin jumped out the sunroof of his car and slid down the car like he was in Die Hard... He dropped his shirt and threw his hat... His people surrounded Wayne." After he was accused of starting the brawl, Bieber tweeted: "The most recent rumors might be the funniest of all. Where do u get this stuff??? #focusedonreality." Source: Starpulse.com

Bullish on US recovery this year: Mukesh Ambani

"We will see the beginning of a recovery, particularly in the US", Mukesh Ambani, chairman, Reliance Industries tells journalist and author Fareed Zakaria, who hosts CNN's weekly public affairs talk show "Fareed Zakaria GPS", in an interview. domain-bbrings you a transcript of the interview
Fareed Zakaria, host "Fareed Zakaria GPS": Mukesh Ambani hasn't given a television interview in almost a decade. He has never let TV cameras into his 27-story home in Mumbai. Until now. Ambani is the richest man in India, the second richest man in all of Asia. He is the chairman of India's topest company, Reliance Industries, which his father started in 1980, making textiles. Today, their revenues come mostly from energy, though they are
making big bets in retailing and telecommunications as well. Zakaria: Tell me, you have a vantage point to look at the global economy. You run India's topest company. Where do you think we are, um, five years after the financial crisis began? Mukesh Ambani: Well, I'm more optimistic than most. And, my view is that this year, we will see the beginning of a recovery, particularly in the US, Zakaria: And you - and you - you think that that's because just the inherent strengths of the US economy? Ambani: There has been a fundamental transformation in the energy scene in the US. For many decades, we have heard that the US will be independent of foreign imports of energy. Realistically, I can now tell you that it is my judgment that this will happen in the next five or seven years, The US has truly found non-conventional energy in shale oil and gas which is really, really bringing benefit not only to the population in the US, but, really, to across the world. Zakaria: You've invested in solar? Do you think, in the next 10 or 15 years, the costs will come down dramatically? Ambani: Absolutely. I think so. And I think that, ultimately, the way I think about energy is that we will transit from what I call a hydrocarbon present, which is coal, oil and natural gas, over the next many decades, into a fully renewable, sustainable future. And solar really will be at the heart of it. Zakaria: Let me ask you about the hydrocarbon present. You run the topest refinery in the world in Jamnagar. What will happen, if there were a military strike on Iran? What would happen to the price of oil, in your estimation? Ambani: Well, I think that the world is a lot more sane. My own view is that if we see small blips, I think that we have a resilient enough system. And today, there is enough spare capacity, right, in the system to take care of eventualities. Zakaria: You were very bullish about the United States, probably more bullish than a lot of Americans. What about the other key drivers of the world economy? Because a lot of people say, look, China is slowing down, Brazil has slowed down, India has slowed down? What do you think of the emerging markets story? Ambani: I think that China is maintaining steady growth. It's not decelerating. Europe has found its own transition path. And they will transgress (sic) through the financial system in an orderly way, India has had some slow growth, but I am really very optimistic on India. I think that...Zakaria: Why is that? Explain that, because in - when people look at India today, they see growth is at 5.5 per cent now. You talk to foreign investors and they say the infrastructure is terrible, the government, you know, doesn't do enough reform, it's very difficult to operate in India. You look at all that and you're not - you're not - you're still bullish? Ambani: Well, I'm very bullish on India because it's really the aspirations of a billion people. And ours is a country where all the billion count. There are some countries in the world where one person counts. There are some countries where the politburo of 12 people count, right. The beauty of India is that all our billion people count. And they have aspirations. And it is really a bottom-up story. It's not a top-down story. So, yes, we will, adjust with what happens in the rest of the world, but we are on a long-term growth trajectory. And this is just not growth in terms of GDP numbers, right. This really is for well being of each and every Indian. And that's the aspiration. Zakaria: Do you think that one of the problems India has to deal with is inequality? It is still one of the poorest countries in the world, and yet it has the second- topest number of billionaires in Asia. People worry about the growing inequality. Ambani: If you think about inequality, that's not only a problem in our country. It's really the problem all across the world. Income comes from opportunity. You take our own example, as Reliance. When I joined Reliance in 1980, the market value of Reliance was $30 million or $40 million. And in 30 years the opportunities that were provided, by this country has enabled us to create wealth for India. My father was a big believer that any business that has the sole purpose of making money is not worth doing. Business must serve a larger societal purpose. Reliance raised all its money from capital markets and from individual small shareholders. So we've created a million millionaires just by investing in Reliance out of ordinary Indians. And that is the process of creating wealth for the country. Once you create opportunity, wealth comes. Zakaria: But do you agree, you -- you've heard all this criticism, that you, in particular, have responsibility. You are the richest Indian. You run the topest company in India. You live in this fabulous house that was, you know, talked about much. Do you see yourself as having a special responsibility? Ambani: Yes, of course. The way I think about these things is I really have my father as my role model. And he started off with nothing. And one of the things that he said to me is that you really don't know, Mukesh, what it is to be poor. And make sure that you maintain everybody's self-respect. So when you give, people hold their hand on this basis, don't give on that basis. When you give, and if people hold their hand like this (holding his hand in a gesture of blessing), that means they bless you. That's the way to give. And in a certain sense, some amount of anonymous giving or doing things that change societies, doing things that leave a lasting impact, and even if it be creation of businesses, creation of jobs, right, creation of sustainable institutions that last beyond you, is the best way that you can contribute to India. Zakaria: Mukesh Ambani, a pleasure to have you on. Ambani: Thank you, Fareed. It was a pleasure. Source: Domain-B

North Korean N-test highly provocative: US

Barack Obama photo: President-Elect Barack Obama obamabestphoto2.jpg
Washington: US President Barack Obama condemned the North Korean nuclear test which was conducted on Tuesday, calling it "highly provocative". "This is a highly provocative act that, following its December 12 ballistic missile launch, undermines regional stability, violates North Korea's obligations under numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions," Obama said in a statement issued by the White House. The test, which North Korea claimed was successful, was carried out at 11.57 AM in Kilju
county, North Hamkyung province, reported sources. Calling North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs as a threat to US national security and to international peace and security, Obama said the US "remains vigilant in the face of North Korean provocations and steadfast in our defense commitments to allies in the region". North Korea has already said on Tuesday that it had successfully conducted a third nuclear test to safeguard its national security against hostile US policy, a move that prompted South Korea to put its military on high alert. The world learnt of the nuclear test when an artificial earthquake with 4.9 magnitudes was detected from the town where the North Korean nuclear test facility is located. Obama said North Korea's latest move contravenes its commitments under the September 19, 2005 Joint Statement of the Six-Party Talks on North Korea's nuclear programmes and "increases the risk of proliferation" Source: News-BulletImage: photobucket.com

U.S. President Barack Obama has beaten his Republican challenger Mitt Romney to win a second term at the White House, TV networks projected Tuesday. In a tweet to supporters, Obama wrote "This happened because of you. Thank you," as crowds cheered in Chicago headquarters, waiting for him to come out and address the nation. Obama was projected to have won
several key swing states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nevada and New Hampshire, while Romney only won North Carolina. Florida and Virginia remained too close to call. The relentless battle for the swing states gave Obama at least 290 electoral votes, while Romney justSupporters of US President Barack Obama celebrate as CNN projects victory for Obama on election night November 6, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. Obama easily grabbed a host of "deep blue" states including California, Illinois and New Jersey, while Romney prevailed in "deep red" states of Texas, Kentucky and Georgia. While Obama supporters have already started celebrations of his reelection, Obama himself has yet to make a victory speech while Romney has not conceded defeat either. Meanwhile, Obama's Democratic Party is also projected bySupporters of US President Barack Obama celebrate as CNN projects victory for Obama on election night November 6, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. Republican Mitt Romney is all set to challenge incumbent Barack Obama after the party nominated the former Massachusetts governor as its candidate for the presidential elections in November this year. Romney won the nomination as he crossed the support of necessary 1,144 delegates during the ongoing Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida on Tuesday. The convention also approved Congressman Paul Ryan as his vice presidential running mate. Romney's nomination will become official after he delivers his acceptance speech on Thursday, campaign officials said. He will legally be able to spend money raised for the general-election campaign only after Thursday's speech. Romney, 65, is the first Mormon to be nominated as the Republican presidential candidate. Mormons are a religious and cultural group related to Mormonism, the principal branch ofthe Latter Day Saint movement which began with the visions of Joseph Smith in upstate New York during the 1820s. 65-year-old Romney will now contest against Barack Obama in the November polls to occupy the White House as new US president. Latest opinion polls indicate that Obama and Romney are in a statistical tie with each other. Meanwhile during the convention, Republican speakers lashed out at President Obama and condemned the policies followed by him during his term as the president. Source: Hindustan Times

No unilateral military action in Syria: Obama

Washington: US   President  Barack  Obama has said it would be a "mistake" to think that America could take unilateral military action in Syria, and that there was a simple solution to the crisis there. "For us to take military action unilaterally as some have suggested, or to think that somehow there is some simple solution, I think is a mistake," Xinhua quoted Obama as saying Tuesday at a press conference at the White House. Rejecting a parallel with Libya, where NATO air raids helped the opposition topple the Muammar Gaddafi government, Obama said that for Libya, the US and its allies mobilised the international community, won a UN Security Council mandate and had the "full cooperation" of the Arab states. "And we knew that we could execute very effectively in a relatively short period of time," Obama said. He described the situation in Syria as "a much more complicated" one. He said Washington will continue to work with key Arab states and international partners towards a resolution of the Syrian conflict. "But the notion that the way to solve every one of these problems is to deploy our military, you know, that hasn't been true in the past and it won't be true now," Obama stressed. Terming what was happening in Syria "heartbreaking and outrageous", Obama said it was not a question of whether Syrian President Bashar al-Assad leaves but rather "it's a question of when".
