US: $1,000 for growing monster cabbage

Fresh Plaza: An Albertville third grader has won a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond for growing a humongous cabbage. Garrett Royster of Albertville Elementary School,  was  selected  at  random  by  Alabama  Agriculture Commissioner

John McMillan from entries across the state. The National Bonnie Plants Cabbage Program helps students learn about gardening. More than 1.5 million third graders across the country participated in the program this year. The giant cabbages grown in the program can weigh as much as 40 pounds, according to a news release. The students submit their entries by mail or online and a winner is selected at random in each state. Source: Fresh Plaza
