US: Kernersville woman unearths 7 3/4-lb sweet potato

It may be hard to believe, but what Dianne Burroughs unearthed from her garden in Kernersville last weekend is actually a home-grown sweet potato. Burroughs planted the sweet potato among three others in her flower garden back in the spring. After digging it out of the ground, she was shocked to discover it weighed an incredible 7 3/4 lbs -- three to four times heavier than the average sweet spud. "I'm shocked. I carried it to church on Sunday… everybody got a kick out of it," Burroughs said. Unfortunately, Burroughs learned of her treasure too late in the season to enter it in the Dixie Classic Fair. She said she may take it to the 14th Sweet Potato Festival this weekend in the Surry County community of Rockford. Source: Fresh Plaza
